  13.             GENERAL INFORMATION
  14.  
  15.             There are two versions of the PMIS ShareWare version
  16.             being distributed.  One has been archived with PKARC,
  17.             creates .ARC files, and another that was archived with
  18.             PKZIP, which creates .ZIP files.  In the installation
  19.             procedures below, the .ARC file is referenced, as well as
  20.             the PKXARC expansion function.  If you have the .ZIP
  21.             version, just substitute .ZIP for .ARC, and substitute
  22.             PKUNZIP for PKXARC.
  23.  
  24.             You have just unarchived the main PMIS.ARC file.
  25.             The first level reveals three files:
  26.  
  27.                     PROG.ARC
  28.                     DATA.ARC
  29.                     README.1ST (This file)
  30.  
  31.             The purpose of the recursive archiving is to accommodate
  32.             users that have only dual floppy drives.  There
  33.             are two different installation instructions included
  34.             below:  One for the HARD DRIVE user
  35.             and one for the 720K, 1.44M or 1.2M floppy user.  Note
  36.             that due to the program's size dual 360K byte floppy
  37.             disks cannot be used.

  39.             INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  40.  
  41.             HARD DRIVE USER
  42.  
  43.             The hard drive user should place all data and program
  44.             files in a single directory.  The following procedure
  45.             unarchives and places all files in a single user
  46.             defined sub directory.
  47.  
  48.             1.  Make a directory for the program to reside.  For
  49.                 example:
  50.  
  51.                             MKDIR C:PMIS
  52.  
  53.             2.  Unarchive the PROG.ARC file and place it in the
  54.                 directory created in step 1.  For example:
  55.  
  56.                             PKXARC PROG C:PMIS
  57.  
  58.             3.  Unarchive the DATA.ARC file and place it in the
  59.

  78.             Installation for the hard drive user is now complete.  To
  79.             execute the program, change to the directory created in
  80.             step 1 and enter the command PMIS.

  82.             DUAL FLOPPY USER
  83.  
  84.             To install PMIS on floppy disks, follow this installation
  85.             procedure.  You will need two formatted, blank disks.
  86.             Only 1.2M 5.25 in. disks or any 3.5 in. disks may be used.

  88.             1.  Copy the PKXARC or PKUNZIP software needed to unarchive PMIS
  89.                 on to this disk, ie the disk that contains the 2 .ARC
  90.                 files unarchived earlier.  Put this disk in drive A.
  91.  
  92.             2.  Insert a formatted, blank disk into drive B.
  93.                 Unarchive the DATA.ARC file on to drive B.  For
  94.                 example:

  96.                             PKXARC DATA B:
  97.  
  98.                 Label this disk DATA and remove it from drive B.
  99.  
  100.             3.  Insert a formatted, blank disk into drive B.
  101.                 Unarchive the PROGRAM.ARC file on to drive B.  For
  102.                 example:

  104.                             PKXARC PROG B:
  105.  
  106.                 Label this disk PROGRAM and remove it from drive B.
  107.  
  108.             Installation of PMIS for the 720K, 1.44M or 1.2M dual floppy
  109.             user is now complete.  To execute the program, insert
  110.             the PROGRAM disk in drive A, the DATA disk in drive B,
  111.             change to drive A, and enter the command PMIS.

  114.  
  115.             The following is a listing of the files contained in
  116.             each of the .ARC files required for executing the
  117.             ShareWare version of PMIS:

  166.             All of these files, with the exception of the readme.1st
  167.             file are required for executing PMIS.  If any files are
  168.             missing you have an altered version of the program; the
  169.             author recommends you discard it to avoid any unpredictable
  170.             or unwanted effects.

  172.             All of the files that have the .dbf suffix are data
  173.             base files.  1992dat.dbf, 1992bud.dbf, 1992cctr.dbf and
  174.             1992cal.dbf are empty and contain no records.  The account
  175.             balance contained in 1992sec.dbf is initially set to zero.
  176.             The user.dbf database has a predefined default user set
  177.             up to provide a starting point.  The year.dbf, direct.dbf,
  178.             cancom.dbf, lists.dbf, and payeelst.dbf are likewise empty
  179.             and contain no records.

  181.             It is recommended that the first action upon entry to the
  182.             main menu screen is to select the set up screen.  On the
  183.             set up screen select the Disk Drives option.  The current
  184.             drives for the program, data, and backup are displayed.  If
  185.             these drive names are different than those in your machine,
  186.             follow the set up instructions to change the drive names.
  187.             Finally, save the new disk drive configuration to disk using
  188.             the save option.  This procedure should be done before using
  189.             any of the PMIS main menu features.

  206.             It is highly recommended that back up copies of the disks
  207.             created or files created in the hard drive directory be
  208.             made as a back up of the PMIS program to fall back on.
  209.             You can then experiment with all the features of the program
  210.             until you are familiar and comfortable with PMIS.
  211.             You can then discard this trial flight and begin with a new,
  212.             empty data base by copying the data files, that is files with
  213.             the .DBF suffix, from the back up copies made previously.
  214.             For the hard drive user, just copy all files with the .DBF
  215.             suffix into the directory that was created during installation.
  216.  
  217.             The dual floppy user should proceed as follows:
  218.  
  219.             1.  Take the back up copy of the PROGRAM disk and copy the
  220.                 the following files onto the working PROGRAM disk:
  221.  
  222.                             year.dbf
  223.                             user.dbf
  224.                             payeelst.dbf
  225.                             cancom.dbf
  226.                             direct.dbf
  227.                             lists.dbf
  228.  
  229.             2.  Take the back up copy of the DATA disk and copy the
  230.                 following files onto the the working DATA disk:
  231.  
  232.                             1992dat.dbf
  233.                             1992cal.dbf
  234.                             1992bud.dbf
  235.                             1992sec.dbf
  236.                             1992cctr.dbf
  237.  
  238.             If for some reason the back up disks are unavailable, you
  239.             can re install PMIS using the above installation procedures,
  240.             provided that the two original .ARC files are still available.
  241.  
  242.             If you do not make back up disks, at least save the the
  243.             original .ARC files used for installation along with a copy
  244.             of the README.1ST file, so you can re install the program.
  245.  
  246.             Spend some time with PMIS, and I think you will see that
  247.             it is a program that you will want to keep and use.
