  95.   The PROTOCAD 3D Disk should contain the following Files:

  105.    To install the program follow the instructions below:
  106.  
  107.    1. Start your computer and make sure you are at the dos prompt.
  108.    2. Insert the PROTOCAD 3D diskette in Drive A or B.
  109.    3. Type A: (or B:, depending on step 2, above) and press ENTER
  110.    4. Type INSTALL, press ENTER and follow the on-screen instructions.

  113. STARTING THE PROGRAM
  114. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  115. PROTOCAD 3D is started from DOS using the command:
  116.  
  117.     PC3D /Option1/Option2/Option3/.....     [ENTER]

  119. Some of the basic Options are listed below:
  120.  
  121.     /ATT     - Use the AT&T video mode ($48).  Some 
  122.                Toshiba laptops also use this video mode.
  123.     /ATT@    - Use the AT&T video mode ($40).  Some 
  124.                Toshiba laptops also use this video mode.
  125.     /E       - Enables graphics for EGA                    
  126.     /EM      - Enables mono EGA Mode
  127.     /EV      - Enables Graphics for VGA                    
  128.     /EMV     - Enables Graphics VGA mode
  129.     /H       - Enables graphics for Hercules               
  130.     /H2      - Enables graphics for Hercules, Video Pg. 2  
  131.     /MONO    - Changes colors to white on black 
  132.     /NE      - DO NOT use EMS even if found

  143. ON-DISK USER'S MANUAL 
  144. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 
  145. The installation process extracts a file called PC3D.MAN.  This is a 
  146. ready-to-print user's manual that you can use for evaluating your 
  147. shareware copy of ProtoCAD 3D.  (Note that this is not a substitute 
  148. for the 200+ page bound professional manual you receive when you 
  149. register the program) 
  150.  
  151. The on-disk user's manual has been formatted to print properly on most 
  152. dot matrix and laserjet printers. 
  153.  
  154. Once you have completed the installation of the program, you may print 
  155. the user's manual using the DOS COPY command, e.g.,
  156.  
  157.        COPY  PC3D.MAN  PRN 
  158.  
  159. Please, make sure you have at least 80 sheets of paper available in 
  160. your printer before you issue the above command.

  164. SAMPLE DRAWINGS
  165. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  166. The ProtoCAD 3D archive should contain a number of sample drawing 
  167. files that are extracted during the installation process (files with 
  168. extension  .PCF).  In order to get a taste of some of the capabilities 
  169. of ProtoCAD 3d, follow these simple steps: 
  170.  
  171.   1.  Install the program (as explained above).
  172.   2.  Start the program (at the DOS prompt, type PC3D with any desired 
  173.       command line options, and press ENTER).
  174.   3.  Load a sample drawing (Select File, Load ).
  175.   4.  Render the displayed image (select Render, Shade Drawing, Go).
  176.  
  177. You may repeat steps 3 and 4 for the rest of the sample drawing files.

  181. NEW INFO - NOT IN THE MANUAL
  182. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  183. 1.  It should be noted that when using the Surface, Sweep command, the 
  184.     sweeping action takes place based on the vector distance between 
  185.     the start point of the sweeping object and the starting point of the 
  186.     swept path.  For example the same object swept around two circles 
  187.     with different starting points, will result in two different swept 
  188.     surfaces.
  189.  
  190. 2.  When importing an HPGL file, all imported elements are placed on 
  191.     the same X-Y plane, i.e., a 2-dimensional object is created on 
  192.     the X-Y plane intersecting the Z-axis at a user specified 
  193.     coordinate (usually by typing in the coordinate).  If the 
  194.     pointer is used to place the imported elements, the X-Y plane 
  195.     at the current Z-axis setting is used.

  197. 3.  The command line switch /MONO has no effect if a configuration
  198.     file (PC3D.CFG) file is detected, i.e., the PC3D.CFG settings 
  199.     cancel the /MONO switch.
  200.  
  201. 4.  When the error message is issued by the program, indicating that 
  202.     either the maximum number of points has been reached, or the 
  203.     program has run out of memory, usable memory cannot be recovered by 
  204.     simply erasing some of the objects.  The only way to reclaim any 
  205.     usable memory is by a) saving the program (if desirable), and 
  206.     b) either loading a new file (File, New), or exiting to DOS and 
  207.     restarting the program.

  211. Additions/Modifications in Release 1.10a
  212. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  213. A.  A modification was made to eliminate an erroneous "Out of Memory"
  214.     message that would appear sometimes whet the Edit, Array command was 
  215.     invoked.
  216.  
  217. B.  A correction was made that would not permit the use of the arrow 
  218.     keys to access all main menus while a primary menu was pulled down.  
  219.     Such selection would stop at the plot menu.
  220.  
  221. C.  A modification was made to avoid unnecessary screen updates when 
  222.     exiting certain menus.
  223.  
  224. D.  A correction was made to the HPGL output module to avoid the problem 
  225.     of sometimes producing images much smaller than the image created on 
  226.     the screen.
  227.  
  228. E.  A check is now made to limit the amount of EMS accessed to 4 Mb, 
  229.     regardless of the amount of EMS available.  In earlier versions, if 
  230.     more than 4 MB was available, the program would behave unpredictably, 
  231.     depending on the EMS manager used.

  233. F.  A problem was corrected that would result in shadow images produced 
  234.     by mouse movement after returning from a DOS shell.
  235.  
  236. G.  The DXF import module was modified to insure that lines, circles, arcs 
  237.     and text were not incorrectly filtered out.
  238.  
  239. H.  A modification was made to the /ATT and /ATT2 video modes, so 
  240.     that the program now correctly operates on the very early ATT 
  241.     6300 models with original Monochrome and RGB monitors.
