  9.                       Introduction to My Little Realm, the system
  10.  
  11.           My Little Realm gives non-technical PC owners the chance to use 
  12.           PC computers to easily maintain and balance their checking account; 
  13.           track charge card expenses; create a phone/address book; print 
  14.           labels; address envelopes; track savings instruments; create a 
  15.           library of their personal books, tapes, cd's, etc.; monitor public 
  16.           library withdrawals; create "memory" records that let the computer 
  17.           remember where important documents (like wills, passports, etc.) are 
  18.           kept; track business expenses and incomes for part-time jobs; easily 
  19.           backup and retrieve files; encourage young readers to visit their
  20.           local libraries; and still more.  MLR is self-installing, comes with 
  21.           online help files, and users need know nothing about DOS, 
  22.           accounting, or file maintenance to make use of the entire system.  
  23.           Requires 2 MB of hard disk space.

  25.           Many of My Little Realm's programs may be purchased separately.  
  26.           These stand-alone modules, called sa's, can be run from either a 
  27.           floppy disk or a hard disk.  The stand-alone programs even make 
  28.           great gifts!  They'll run on almost any kind of IBM compatible PC.

  32.                       The Stand-alone Programs of My Little Realm
  33.           
  34.           Calling Cards.
  35.           Calling Cards lets you access your phone/address database as if it 
  36.           were your own personal Yellow Pages.  If you need a plumber, just 
  37.           tell Calling Cards to get you the number of the plumber.  And if you 
  38.           need labels, Calling Cards lets you put your records in either of 
  39.           two categories such as "Friends" and "Clients".  All you have to do 
  40.           is put fanfold labels in your printer and tell Calling Cards which 
  41.           category you want the labels printed for.  You can also print from 
  42.           one to 100 labels for a specific name and address, or you can even 
  43.           address envelopes.

  45.           Charging.
  46.           If you're the "typical" American family you have seven credit cards.  
  47.           Have you ever wondered where you stood with all of those cards?  How 
  48.           much is out on this one or that one?  Or all of them?  The press of 
  49.           a single key in Charging will answer those questions.  If you need 
  50.           precise tracking of your charging expenditures, Charging can show 
  51.           you how much you spend at specific stores or in given situations.
  52.           This program is also known as the Charge Card or Credit Card 
  53.           program.

  55.           Checking.
  56.           Checking makes checkbook maintenance a breeze.  You create the 
  57.           records of your checks, deposits, autowithdrawals, and so on with a 
  58.           minimum of data entry.  A degree in accounting is definitely not 
  59.           required.  Checking automatically balances your checking account and 
  60.           tracks your personal income tax deductions (or whatever else you 
  61.           tell it to keep track of).

  63.           The Private Library Routine.
  64.           The Private Library routine gives you the opportunity to put all of
  65.           your personal volumes (books, cd's, video tapes, etc.) online.  You
  66.           can sort, search, view and print your records in a variety of ways.

  68.           The Public Library Routine.
  69.           The Public Library routine lets you easily keep track of the works 
  70.           you borrow from your public libraries.  It helps you remember when 
  71.           the books are due, and it maintains an historical log of everything 
  72.           you borrow.  That way you'll always know if you've returned a book 
  73.           or not, and you can view, sort, search and print your Historical 
  74.           file.

  76.           Read More.
  77.           The Read More program was developed to encourage young readers to go
  78.           to their public libraries.  Kids frequently complain that they can't
  79.           find anything to read.  Almost all of the titles that come with Read 
  80.           More are fun reading.  They are not meant to replace the "suggested 
  81.           reading lists" proffered by grade school and high school English 
  82.           teachers.  Read More was designed to encourage young readers by 
  83.           showing them a wide variety of new authors and works that they would 
  84.           enjoy reading.  It comes with more than 1,000 titles that young 
  85.           readers can peruse and "check off" after they've read them.  Books 
  86.           are listed by age groups.  For ages 6 months to 18 years.

  88.           Records of the Realm.
  89.           "Memory" records created by the Records of the Realm Routine help 
  90.           locate important documents in short order.  This routine can also 
  91.           save you a lot of trouble and headaches should you ever lose one or 
  92.           more of your credit cards.  It will automatically generate a list of 
  93.           phone numbers of all of your charge card issuers so you can quickly 
  94.           make the necessary calls to stop payments, print letters to those 
  95.           same issuers (required by most charge card issuers), and print 
  96.           labels for the envelopes.

  98.           Savings.
  99.           Savings lets you keep track of all of your savings instruments ... 
  100.           certificates of deposit, passbook savings, Keough plans, IRA's, and 
  101.           so on.  It prints your savings portfolio, showing the total of the 
  102.           portfolio as well as the sub-totals by instrument.

  106.                                My Little Realm/The System

  108.           You can purchase the entire My Little Realm system which comes with
  109.           all of the above programs plus:
  110.           
  111.           1  Main Menu.  It lets you easily change color modes and the cursor 
  112.                          blink rate, shell out to DOS, and invoke MLR's own 
  113.                          ScreenSaver ... all at the touch of a button.  It 
  114.                          also gives you easy, single key access to all of the
  115.                          MLR stand-alone programs described above.

  117.           2  Utilities.  MLR comes with its own backup and retrieval 
  118.                          utilities.  You can back up all of your MLR files 
  119.                          with the press of a single key.  And you can retrieve 
  120.                          backed up files by simply telling Retrieve which MLR 
  121.                          program has a bad file.  Retrieve will do the rest.  
  122.                          You don't have to know a thing about DOS!

  124.           3  Documentation.  MLR comes with its own text viewer and online
  125.                          documentation so you can view your help files without 
  126.                          leaving the system.  Included are two help files on 
  127.                          setting up your system and a Tour Guide file that 
  128.                          takes you through a practice run of MLR.

  130.           4  Common interface.  MLR's programs are easy to learn, and once you 
  131.                          learn how to use one, you'll know how to use them all 
  132.                          because they all work the same way.

  134.           5  Review Routines.  There are two review routines that let you 
  135.                          access your checking and charging files to see how 
  136.                          you've been spending your hard-earned money.  Both 
  137.                          routines allow you to peruse your files on a record 
  138.                          by record basis, and you can query your files to see 
  139.                          how much you've spent in a specific store or in a 
  140.                          given situation.  They also generate a year-to-date 
  141.                          summary of your records.

  143.           Note:  The MLR system must be run from the hard disk and requires 
  144.                  2 MB of hard disk space.
