  59.         Thanks for taking time to read this file.  It should save
  60.         you a couple of minutes of frustration.
  61.  
  62.         First of all, here is what you MUST have ...
  63.  
  64.            If Installing to a Novell(tm) Network, Then YOU MUST be
  65.            logged in as 'SUPERVISOR'. Otherwise, crash and burn.
  66.  
  67.            YOU MUST have at least 500 k bytes free after loading DOS,
  68.            the Network Shell, and any of your memory resident programs.
  69.  
  70.         OK, those were the only 2 musts, not so bad.
  71.  
  72.         There are 5 batch files that come with the KBS:email archive.
  73.         They are ...
  74.  
  75.                 1) installC.bat  .. will install the files on drive C:
  76.                 2) installD.bat  .. will install the files on drive D:
  77.                 3) installE.bat  .. will install the files on drive E:
  78.                 4) installF.bat  .. will install the files on drive F:
  79.                 5) installG.bat  .. will install the files on drive G:
  80.  
  81.         Pick the drive that you want to install KBS:email on and 'run'
  82.         the corresponding install?.bat program.

  84.         DO NOT RUN the einstall.exe program, let my batch file do it.
  85.         If you have already run the einstall.exe program then you must
  86.         get all the files from the archive and start over.

  89.         For Example ...

  91.                 If you have chosen installF.bat then the following has
  92.                 occured.
  93.  
  94.                 A directory called F:\KMAIL has been created.
  95.                 KBSEMAIL.EXE  and ESETUP.DBF have been copied to the
  96.                 directory F:\KMAIL. Additionally, a backup file of
  97.                 ESETUP.DBF called ESETUP.BAK is also created and
  98.                 placed there.

  100.                 A directory called F:\XMAIL has been created.
  101.                 Nothing exists in this directory except the following
  102.                 sub-directorys ...
  103.  
  104.                       F:\XMAIL\KBSEDATA\    & this is where the system
  105.                                               data files are kept.

  107.                       F:\XMAIL\1\           & mailbox data file reserved
  108.                                               for supervisor.

  110.                       F:\XMAIL\2\           & mailbox
  111.                       F:\XMAIL\3\           & mailbox

  118.             5 mailboxes have been created as directories under
  119.             F:\XMAIL\, for the first 4 users that you wish to sign up.
  120.             ( you, as the 'SUPERVISOR', are assigned mailbox number 1.)
  121.             if you need more users, then simply create a directory
  122.             under F:\XMAIL\. Example  MkDir 6 etc .. and when you add
  123.             the next user, use 6 as his/her mailbox.

  126.                 ( This goes without saying, but, if you are installing
  127.                   to a network, you must give all potential KBS:email
  128.                   users enough rights to get to these directories. )
  129.  
  130.  
  131.                 If you already have the XMAIL and KMAIL directories,
  132.                 the install program will try to create them anyway.
  133.  
  134.             Using the sysop pull down menu and selecting the ADD USER
  135.             function will allow you to add, delete, and edit user
  136.             information. You might want to change your name here.
  137.  
  138.             If you are NOT ATTACHED to a network then you will be asked for
  139.             your sign on name. It is 'SUPERVISOR' and your password
  140.             is 'CIARA'. You will be asked for these.
  141.  
  142.             If you are running on a network, you MUST BE logged in as
  143.             'SUPERVISOR', as no other users exist in mail yet, and you will
  144.             not be asked to sign on like you would be if you were not on a
  145.             network.
  146.  
  147.             After you have installed the package and you want to sign on,
  148.             type KBSEMAIL in the \kmail directory.
  149.  
  150.             At this time, you are the only user that exists.  You
  151.             must add another user if you want to send mail to
  152.             them. Add 4 users, using the already set up mailboxes.
  153.             Assign each user a mailbox number that already exists as a
  154.             subdirectory. ( mailboxes 2 - 5 )
  155.  
  156.             As 'SUPERVISOR', you may change the location of the data
  157.             and the mailbox files by pressing the F1 key at the main menu.
  158.             If you change the locations then you must immediately exit
  159.             the program and copy all appropriate files to those locations.
  160.             Failing to do so will cause the program to crash and burn. If
  161.             you make a mistake, then copy esetup.bak to esetup.dbf to
  162.             erase what you just did and you can re-run the program. If
  163.             you change the location of the data and mailbox files, leave
  164.             a copy of them where they were until you verify that the
  165.             program is using the new files. Then you can erase the old
  166.             files.

  171.             The F9 key will toggle between color and black and white
  172.             screens. ( at the main menu only )

  234.         KNOWN ERROR MESSAGES :

  238.                A memory error has occurred after a RUN that prevents
  239.                rebuilding of the buffer system. This occurs when the
  240.                system tries to rebuild the R space and there is less
  241.                than 16K available from DOS.
  242.  
  243.                KBS:email uses the Novell(tm) SEND command in conjunction
  244.                with the 'run' command to tell other users that mail was
  245.                just left for them. ( the 'RUN' command is also associated
  246.                with running other Novell(tm) KBS:email programs. )
  247.                If removing some of your memory resident programs does not
  248.                correct the problem, log into KBS:email as 'SUPERVISOR',
  249.                and at the main menu ( horizontal top ) press the F1 key.
  250.                This will load the set up screen. Change the 'use send
  251.                command' to say 'NO' instead of 'OK'.  This will bypass the
  252.                'run' and 'send' combination in the program. ( you will also
  253.                not be able to 'run' some of the Novell(tm) functions from
  254.                within KBS:email. )
  255.

  262.                DBF files, as they are being installed, are matched to
