CADSpeller (optional)
---------------------
CADSpeller is a spelling checker that is fully integrated into
AutoCAD. CADSpeller will check the spelling of words contained in
Text, Attributes, Attribute Definitions, or Dimension entities. It
will even check the spelling of these entity types inside Block
Inserts, regardless of how deeply nested.Spell Checking
CADSpeller is a stand-alone program that does not require CADWriter,
however, CADWriter will automatically integrate spell checking if
CADSpeller is installed.
You may purchase CADSpeller along with CADWriter. For this reason,
this manual covers the installation and operation of both CADWriter
and CADSpeller.

Chapter 2
Installation
===========================================================================
System Requirements
-------------------
CADWriter Version 12 works with DOS versions of AutoCAD Release 12 and
above. Installation of CADWriter will use approximately 350 kilobytes
of hard disk space. Installation of the optional CADSpeller program
will use an additional 500 kilobytes. CADWriter and CADSpeller do not
have any other software or hardware requirements beyond those of the
AutoCAD Release 12.
Making a Backup
---------------
When you receive your CADWriter software, you should make a backup
copy of the original release disk using the DOS DISKCOPY command. You
should also copy all information, including serial number, from the
original label to the label of the backup copy. Store the original in
a safe place.
Viewing the README File
-----------------------
Your original release disk contains a README.TXT file. This file
contains information on changes to the CADWriter program or manual
made after the printing of this manual. You should read through this
file before installation so that you are aware of any major changes.
To do this, enter:
C:\>A:
A:\>README
If you want a print-out of this file, enter:
C:\>A:
A:\>TYPE README.TXT >PRN
Installing CADWriter
--------------------
The installation of CADWriter is easy. Simply copy all the files from
the CADWriter release disk to a directory on your hard disk.
Note
LETTEREASE users should copy the CADWriter files to the
directory that contains the LETTEREASE executable files.
This makes it possible for CADWriter to find the kerning
data files when using LETTEREASE font files.
For instance, if you wanted to install CADWriter to a directory named
\CADWRIT you would do the following.
C:\>MD \CADWRIT -Create a CADWriter directory.
C:\>CD \CADWRIT -Change to the directory.
C:\CADWRIT>COPY A:*.* -Copy all CADWriter files.
The above instructions are only an example of how to install the
CADWriter files to your system. You may copy the files to any
directory you choose. The above instructions also assume that you
will use A: drive. If you are using a different drive, replace all
references to A: with the proper drive designation.
Installing CADSpeller (optional)
--------------------------------
If you purchased CADSpeller with CADWriter, you will find the
CADSpeller files on the CADWriter release disk under the \CADSPELL
directory.
To install CADSpeller, we recommend that you copy the CADSpeller files
to the same directory as you did the CADWriter files.
C:\>CD \CADWRIT
C:\CADWRIT>COPY A:\CADSPELL\*.*
Chapter 3
Using CADWriter
===========================================================================
Loading CADWriter
-----------------
Before you can use CADWriter, you must load the program into AutoCAD.
To do this, start AutoCAD and select Applications... from the File
pull down menu or enter the APPLOAD command at the Command prompt.
Command: APPLOAD
AutoCAD then displays the Load AutoLISP and ADS Files dialog box.
The Files to Load list box lists the applications that you can load.
The first time you run this command, you must choose the Files...
button to add the CADWRIT.EXP file to the files to load list. Once
this file is in the Files to Load list, select it from the list and
press the Load button.
You may also use the AutoLISP XLOAD function to load CADWriter.
Command: (XLOAD "C:/CADWRIT/CADWRIT")
Note
----
This is an AutoLISP Load function. You must be careful to
include the open and close parenthesis and the quotation
marks. You must also use forward slashes as path delimiters
instead of backslashes.
See Chapter 4 - Using CADSpeller for information on loading and using
CADSpeller.
Starting CADWriter
------------------
After loading CADWriter into the drawing edit session, type the
following at the AutoCAD command prompt:
Command: WRITE
The following CADWriter Main dialog box is displayed.
New Document
------------
Press this button to begin a new CADWriter document. You are then
prompted for the upper left corner, width, and rotation of the new
document. CADWriter will then display a temporary box that
represents the margins of the document with an active cursor inside
the box indicating that you are in Text Entry Mode. At this point,
you can begin typing and entering any of the keyboard commands.
Edit Document
-------------
Press this button to edit an existing CADWriter document. If you
select a group of text that is not a CADWriter document, you are
then offered the option to convert the text into a CADWriter
document. If you choose to do so, you are then asked if you wish
to erase the original text entities.
Explode Document
----------------
Press this button to explode an existing CADWriter document to
individual lines of text. If any spacing adjustments have been
made, the adjustments will be removed before exploding.
Exploding documents lets Clients, Sub-Contractors, or service
bureaus that do not own CADWriter have access to the text entities
in your drawing.

------------
The first time you attempt to run CADWriter, the CADWriter
Registration dialog will appear.
Every installation of CADWriter requires a unique Registration Number.
To register as a CADWriter User and to receive your Registration

LETTEREASE program if you want CADWriter to use the
automatic kerning feature with LETTEREASE fonts.
For PostScript Type 1 font files, CADWriter expects the Font
Metrics file (holds kerning data) to be in the same

===========================================================================
Also included with CADSpeller is a separate program that merges a file
containing a list of words into the User Dictionary. This lets you
quickly add many words to the dictionary outside of AutoCAD. With any
text editor that can save a file in ASCII (text only) format, simply
enter one word on each line. Typically, you would do this by
entering:
word1<enter>
word2<enter>
word3<enter>
.
.
wordnnn<enter>
There are a few rules that you must follow to add words to the User
Dictionary. Words must begin with an alpha character (A-Z) and can
contain:
Upper or lower case alpha characters(A-Z)
Numeric characters ( 0-9 )
An apostrophe ( ' )
After you have saved the ASCII file, you can merge the file of words
into the User Dictionary running the TXT2DICT utility. To do this,
enter the following command at the DOS prompt:
C:\CADSPELL>TXT2DICT FILENAME
In the above example, you should substitute FILENAME with the filename
and path of the ASCII file that you created. The TXT2DICT utility
will then add your file of dictionary words to the User Dictionary
(DICT.U) file. The TXT2DICT.EXE must be executed from the same
directory that contains the rest of the CADSpeller files
