Current Video and Printer Drivers
=================================
VIDEO DRIVERS: as of February, 1993
=============
This is a current listing of the video drivers included with CompuShow.
- 16 color 1024x768 requires a 512K VGA,
- 256 color 640x480 requires a 512K VGA,
- 256 color 1024x768 reguires a 1M VGA, and
- 256 color modes on an 8514/A adapter require the memory expansion.
Also, VGA adapters that are built-in to a system board or bundled with a
computer (unless you're getting a specific name-brand board), are frequently
low-end (cheap) adapters, and probably don't have "Super-VGA" capabilities.
Finally, remember that all IBM standard graphics modes are 'built-in' to
the program. If your graphics adapter doesn't go beyond the standard modes,
then you don't need a video driver.

[Maximum of FIFTEEN of the above modes. NOTE: If there are fewer than 15
modes and your "VESA compliant" VGA should support mode(s) that don't appear
in CompuShow, contact the BOARD MANUFACTURER. The reason they're not shown
is because the video BIOS (the software part of the board) says it can't do
those mode(s), so the "fix" HAS TO COME FROM THE BOARD MANUFACTURER!]
CAUTION: Problems with Oak VGAs
-------------------------------
There seems to be a serious problem with the Oak BIOS, and if you try to use
CSHOW to display an Oak mode which isn't available on your VGA, it will
still attempt to set the graphics mode, and throw the VGA into a
configuration where it will no longer do ANY extended graphics modes until
you re-boot! To work around this Oak BIOS bug:
- SETUP O2 K
- Use CSHOW to display a graphic in each video driver mode (the letters K,
L, M, etc.) UNTIL YOU ENCOUNTER A MODE THAT DOESN'T WORK.
- Re-boot the computer and continue testing.
- Once you have a list of the modes which DO WORK, do a setup using those
letters: SETUP O2 KLMN

Printer Drivers: as of February, 1993
----------------
Note that the <Q>uality print mode of MOST COLOR PRINTERS and the LASERJET
and DESKJET at 300dpi requires MORE THAN 640k of memory, as CompuShow must
expand, rescale and dither the entire image to the 'virtual screen' (VScreen
on the Shift-F1 box), before it starts to print. This means if you don't have
EMS or XMS memory, you'll be limited to the <F>ast print mode.
The following printer drivers are included with the enhanced program:
