1... PREFACE
This program is an electronic lecture for businesses that are in the
service sector. You may use it for employees to measure and score your
organization's performance; find out mistakes commonly made in service
delivery; inspire your staff with service philosophies of famous people;
design better service delivery to retain personnel and boost profits. The
trainer may elect to customize lessons by altering the material in the text
files (Those with the extension,".DAT").
Training via software permits just-in-time training capability and is
self-paced. If group sessions are held in your organization, then the kit
might be used by attendees prior to the meeting.

4... INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
INSTALLATION:
This procedure is to be done by the PC systems administrator
or the user if there is no administrator.
Please use the mkdir command to set up a directory by typing
the following command at the DOS prompt:
MKDIR C:\WORK
Then insert the aware diskette into drive A:, and use the following
command to copy all of the necessary files to your hard disk:
COPY A:\*.* C:\WORK\*.*.
You are now ready to run. There is no requirement for decompression
of files or other additional steps. If your hard drive is not
designated as C:, you should substitute the appropriate letter in
place of the "C" in the previous commands.
Be sure to store the original diskette in a safe
place as an archival backup.
OPERATION:
Invocation:
The user must set his directory to the WORK subdirectory by typing
this command from the DOS prompt:
CD C:\WORK
The program may then be invoked by typing 'WORK' followed by a
carriage return:
WORK <CR>
Allow the initial screens to 'play', and then operate the slidebar
You may use PageUp PageDown for viewing the text windows or UpArrow and
DownArrow for slower paced viewing.
Selection Options:
The program is menu driven. A mouse may be used as a selection
device instead of using the up and down arrow keys. Some of the
displays are controlled by a timer, in which case it is useless to
hit return until the animation sequences complete.
One section, service metrics, requests that the user answer
'YES' or 'NO' to a series of questions. A score will be computed at the
end of the questions. If the user tires of this sequence and wishes
to leave this section he may enter "ESC".
A list of files or an inventory of the files which must be in the
WORK subdirectory is included here. Absence or alteration of these files
may cause the program to abort or malfunction.

The .DAT files explained below in Section 5 are also
required. All files which are NOT .DAT files must be left intact and
unaltered!
5... TAILORING OF LESSONS FOR UNIQUE COMPANY REQUIREMENTS
The text files may be modified to suit the needs of the
particular user company. The files provided here are a database for
ethics issues. The trainer may remove or add information as he sees
fit with the remaining screens and the menus serving as a shell.
It is suggested that the original .DAT files be left alone intact
and as delivered on the supplied media. The .DAT files copied and
stored on the hard disk (and subsequently on the media that you use
for distribution within your company) are the ones to modify.
There is a SIZE LIMITATION of 6 windowed screens(about 120 lines)
due to memory requirements. This means that if you have a .DAT file
exceeding the size limit, the remaining excess will not appear in
the scrolled window when the program runs.
The mechanics of modification are to use a text editor such as
EDIT and use ASCII characters (Alphabetic, numeric and punctuation-
characters only). Special formating characters such as TABs are not
to be used (Do not Use Word Perfect). You may enter up to 61
characters per line. These will be visible in the text windows.
Shown at the end of this section is a list of the files and
their titles that will appear in the scrolled windows along with
the window title. These are the only files available for modifica-
tion. CODE.DAT and BUILD.DAT are the most likely files that you
would modify. Do not touch CASES.DAT
Example of Modification : insertion of additional text into the
service pointer file,DESP.DAT.
A sample modification would be to invoke 'EDIT', open your
hard disk copy of DESP.DAT, add the lines, and save the file as
C:\WORK\DESP.DAT. Your original DESP.DAT has already been safely
secured away on the distribution media.
CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
Discover what your customers want. Do it the old- <-- addition
fashioned way -- ask them. Use sureys, focus groups, <-- addition

decisions. <-- addition
Obtaining customer opinions may be tricky. Customers
may not wish to respond. Or even worse, there is no
guarantee that the real customer is the one who is actually
responding to a mailed survey. For instance, a school
district mailed out surveys to evaluate their student
honors program. Siblings of the honors students who
themselves were not honor students checked the box "Make
the Course Work Harder" and mailed back the surveys.
You may find that "customers do not want to be
bombarded with feedback instruments every day. There will
