  1.                   BTVIEWER Installation Instructions/
  2.                           Last minute notes.

  5. All BTVIEWER files are found in a file called BTVIEW.ZIP.  You
  6. should extract all files from the ZIP file and make sure all
  7. files are found on the PATH.
  8.  
  9. An important feature is that while opening a file or looking for
  10. .DDF files, the directories specified by the environment variable
  11. BTFILEPATH are also searched.  NOTE THAT YOU MUST HAVE .DDF FILES
  12. TO USE BTVIEWER!  We are working on a .DDF Build program, but
  13. for now you must have .DDF files.  (It kills me to point you off
  14. in the direction of a competitor, but since I do not expect to have
  15. a DDF Builder program until March 93, I will direct you to a
  16. commercial source:  Smithware, (615) 860-3500.  They sell a DDF
  17. builder program for about $ 129.00.
  18.  
  19. PLEASE BE CAREFUL ABOUT UNZIPPING BTVIEW.ZIP!  Make sure you do
  20. not unzip the sample .DDF files so that you overwrite your good
  21. .DDF files.
  22.  
  23. If you have any trouble seeing the menus, try resetting the
  24. colors (Set Colors under the Options menu).  Also, a new file is
  25. now sent, CINSTALL.DAT.  This will install the standard green
  26. screen color set.  I ran into some problems with folks having
  27. strange screen problems.  Very odd stuff.

  29. Another troubleshooting tip:  If you are having a problem with
  30. running BTVIEWER, Please(!) try loading BTRIEVE.EXE with the /E
  31. parameter that causes BTRIEVE not to use extended (or is that
  32. expanded?<G>) memory.  Many a problem has been eliminated by
  33. that advice.  Also, if you have some application that runs with
  34. Btrieve and BTVIEWER does not run, try to determine what start-up
  35. parameters the working system uses, and load BTRIEVE the exact
  36. same way before going into BTVIEWER.

  38. Please begin using BTVIEWER by working with the sample data or
  39. WELL BACKED UP data of your own.  BTVIEWER is a powerful tool,
  40. and like all powerful tools, can have unexpected side effects.

  43. any '!' prompt.  BTVIEWER's Registration ID is 135.

  49. software.  I understand that shareware tends to live on forever,

  51. work, and while I am not currently aware of any bugs, I can
  52. pretty much assure you that the software will be even better 9

  85.           situations.
  86.           Fix problem with float decimal display.  Fix at 6,
  87.           unless someone finds a way to set decimals in float
  88.           field DDF record, which appears not to be supported
  89.           by XQL/XTRIEVE, etc.

  93. 11/02/92  Release 1.11A.  Add Export to .DBF dBase III files.

  95.           A more subtle change:  Allow modify to
  96.           "non-modifiable" fields in file.  To do this, make the
  97.           change you wish.  If the return code indicates
  98.           modifiable error, BTVIEWER will now delete the old
  99.           record, and insert the modified record as a "new"
  100.           record.  I would think that this could cause a problem
  101.           with autoincrement keys (yet another problem with such
  102.           keys).  Let me know if this presents a problem that I
  103.           have not foreseen.  I will make it an option in
  104.           version 1.11B if it seems to present a problem.

  111.           restrictions for string fields.  Increase space allowed
  112.           for integer ASCII display.  Add option (make it default)
  113.           to trim trailing spaces during export.

  146.           is set to Accelerated.  HOWEVER, MAKE SURE DATA IS
  147.           BACKED UP IF YOU USE ACCELERATED MODE!  This mode
  148.           disables all of Btrieve's safeguards.  The file will
  149.           be corrupted if the file is not clossed correctly.
