  12.           BIZ PLAN DEVELOPER will:

  14.         *   Help you create a highly professional business plan.

  16.         *   Save you many hours (even days!) of work.

  18.         *   Let you compare your business with others in your
  19.             industry.

  21.         *   Give you buckets of money, Shangri-La, a Rolls-Royce
  22.             in your driveway, the perfect spouse, wonderful
  23.             children, world peace and intergalactic harmony.

  26.     Requirements
  27.     ------------

  29.         Any PC or compatible with a word processing or page
  30.     layout program and a spreadsheet program.  These files are
  31.     designed for use by those with a basic (not advanced)
  32.     knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets.
  33.     
  34.         The text files are in WordPerfect 5.1 (*.WP) and ASCII
  35.     (*.TXT) formats.  The spreadsheet files are in Lotus 1-2-3
  36.     files v2.01 (*.WK1) format.  Any later versions and also many
  37.     other competitive programs such as WordStar, Word, or Quattro
  38.     Pro should be able to import these files.
  39.     
  40.         I am partial to laser printers, but it is not a
  41.     requirement UNLESS you are planning to present this plan to
  42.     venture capitalists or other sophisticated investors.
  43.     
  44.         A Macintosh version is also available.  It is located on
  45.     CompuServe, Ziffnet, GEnie, Delphi, America OnLine, BMUG,
  46.     and BCS-Mac, as well as several shareware vendors.

  49.     Purpose:
  50.     
  51.         Every business needs to have a plan in order to track
  52.     its progress.  There is no business too small, too large,
  53.     too complex or too simple to avoid having a business plan.
  54.     I found that many businessmen assume that the usefulness
  55.     of their business plan is over once the business is
  56.     up and running.  I have been successful using a business
  57.     plan not only to start a business, but as an important
  58.     management tool in an ongoing business.
  59.     
  60.         This program is designed for use by any size (small,
  61.     medium or large) or type (product or service) of business.
  62.     It also includes all the necessary information which most
  63.     lenders or investors are seeking.
  64.     
  65.         I didn't write this program in an ivory tower some
  66.     place, but out of my own business experience.  For seven
  67.     years, I imported cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest of
  68.     Germany, so this is definetly a "cuckoo" program!  I have
  69.     been involved in many other business ventures.  I'd be lying
  70.     if I said I made money with all of them.  But I can
  71.     truthfully say that all were successful, mainly because I
  72.     followed a plan and stuck to it.

  91.     these could save you many hundreds of hours of work.
  92.     Because of the wide diversity of businesses and business
  93.     ideas, I have tried to make these files as universal as
  94.     possible.  Over time, you will likely incorporate your own
  95.     language into the text and make modifications to the
  96.     worksheets.

  107.         If you want to get started quickly, just read these few
  108.     lines:
  109.     
  110.         FIRST, take a look at what is here.
  111.     
  112.         Open the spreadsheets in your spreadsheet program.  The
  113.     best file to look at first is BPMPROF.WK1 (Proforma Financial
  114.     Statements).  I highly recommend that you do your spreadsheet
  115.     work first.  Make sure your business idea is going to be
  116.     financially worthwhile before trying to write the text
  117.     portion.

  119.         Get into your word processing program.
  120.     
  121.         Open the BIZ PLAN DEVELOPER file, either BPD22.WP
  122.     (WordPerfect 5.1) or BPD22.TXT (ASCII text).  This is the
  123.     main BIZ PLAN DEVELOPER file which will contain the text you
  124.     will use.
  125.     
  126.         To access the BPD22.WP in WordPerfect 5.1, hit <F5>
  127.     (List Files), change to the A directory (or the directory on
  128.     your hard drive where BPD22.WP is located), then retrieve
  129.     it by hitting "1".
  130.     
  131.         If you are now hopelessly lost, take a look at the
  132.     User's Guide.  When you register, I send you a printed User's
  133.     Guide along with other valuable items.

  141.          The text files are in two formats - ASCII text and
  142.     WordPerfect 5.1.  The spreadsheet files are in Lotus (*.WK1)
  143.     format.  These files can be opened with higher versions.  Most
  144.     other spreadsheet programs can import these Lotus files.

  214.         Shareware describes a method of distributing copyrighted
  215.     software in which a user is allowed to fully evaluate the
  216.     software before purchasing it.  After an evaluation period,
  217.     the user is required to register the product if he decides
  218.     to keep using it.

  220.         Shareware distribution addresses all of the legitimate
  221.     complaints that users have with commercial software
  222.     distribution.

  224.       o Shareware allows a user to fully evaluate a product,
  225.         free of charge, in his or her home or business, *before*
  226.         deciding to buy it.

  228.       o Shareware programs can circulate freely on Bulletin
  229.         Boards, through Shareware disk distributors, or through
  230.         user groups.

  232.       o Because Shareware distribution reduces the need to
  233.         advertise, Shareware is less expensive than commercial

  244.         In short, Shareware is a user's dream come true.  Users
  245.     show their appreciation to developers for this extremely
  246.     flexible distribution scheme by registering their software.

  248.     gradually disappear.  It is not sufficient to simply let the
  249.     "other guy" pay the registration.  You are the other guy's
  250.     "other guy".

  256.         Shareware is not "free" software.  Shareware is not
  257.     Public Domain software.  The fee that you may have paid to
  258.     receive a Shareware program does not mean that the software

  260.     vendor, User Group, Bulletin Board Service or retailer to
  261.     cover their cost of getting the program to you.  Shareware
  262.     software is paid for by registering your copy with the

  273.     four years.  During that period it has been in constant use
  274.     by its author.  BIZ PLAN DEVELOPER was originally
  275.     developed for the IBM PC.  It was later developed to run on
  276.     Apple Macintosh computers.  The development now is done
  277.     concurrently - wherever I feel like working on a particular
