Title: "Drawing a Complete Blank"
Reference: PC World June 1990
Author: James Eckhardt
Files: BLANK.DOC, BLANK.BAT, BLANKER.COM
Clearing the screen with CLS doesn't remove the blinking cursor or
the DOS prompt. When leaving your computer unattended, to truly black
out the screen, run BLANK.BAT, which runs BLANKER.COM and uses MODE
to reset the display.
As Karl Koessel explains in The Help Screen, PC World, December 1990,
the original BLANK.COM published in June doesn't work correctly on
PS/2s and some other systems. To fix the problem, BLANK.COM was
renamed BLANKER.COM, and the BLANK.BAT batch file was created. If
you have a monochrome system, change co80 in BLANK.BAT to mono. You
may also need to modify the drive letter and path to the directory
where you store the DOS MODE.COM utility.
Copy BLANK.BAT and BLANKER.COM to a directory that's listed in a PATH
statement. Then, type BLANK to blank the screen--cursor, prompt, and
all. Press <Enter> to reset the display.
