BADGER INSTALLATION: 12/08/92
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your copy of BADGER has expired, see BADGER.DOC for information on
resetting your copy or enter: C:> badger -reset
An 'INSTALL' program has been provided to assist in the installation of BADGER
on your hard-disk. The INSTALL program will install BADGER on your C: drive.
If you want BADGER installed somewhere else, you will have to install BADGER
manually as described in BADGER.DOC.
Your C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT.bat file will be modified by the INSTALL program. Your
original AUTOEXEC.BAT file will be saved as a C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT.001 (or 002...).
INSTALL will copy the required files to a directory called C:\BIN on your
hard-disk. If necessary, this directory will be created and added to the
PATH variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. BADGER can be configured to check
the Important Event List each time you boot your computer or only once
per day.
If your system requires that a 'special' command be executed in the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file to read the battery clock to the system clock, it must
be located in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file BEFORE the BADGER program. This is
because the system clock must be set before BADGER is executed in the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Very few computers require this, check your system
documentation to be sure.
Installation:
-------------
1. Place the BADGER floppy disk in one of your floppy disk drives.
2. Execute: 'A:\INSTALL' (if you have the disk in your A: drive)
3. Answer the questions about your monitor type & notification frequency.
BADGER will be installed on your system. You will be informed if you need
to re-boot to make the changes effective.
Enter BADGER at your prompt to run the program. BADGER is simple to use.
You will be automatically informed of any 'due' events you enter each time
you boot your computer or only once per day depending on the configuration
you selected.
See the full 'BADGER.DOC' file for complete information. This file will
be located in your C:\BIN directory after you execute the INSTALL program.
You can view this file by entering the following:
type C:\BIN\BADGER.DOC | more
You may re-execute the 'INSTALL' program anytime to change your color
options or when re-installing an upgrade. Do not re-install shareware
versions of BADGER, since your current BADGER.DAT (data file) will be
deleted.
Technical
---------
The 'INSTALL' program will either modify your existing AUTOEXEC.BAT file or
create it if necessary. INSTALL will copy BADGER.EXE, BADGER.DOC and
BADGER.REG (shareware versions only) to a directory named C:\BIN on your
hard-disk. The directory will be created if necessary. If C:\BIN is not
in your PATH, it will be added to the PATH variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file. The command 'BADGER -s' or 'BADGER -o' will be added to your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This command will cause BADGER to check your important
list either every time (-s), or only the first time (-o) your computer is
turned on each day. If you specify that you are not using a color display,
then "set NOCOLOR=x" is also added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
