BIBLE JUMBLES 2 is released as "Shareware". It is not free. If
you like it and use it beyond a 20 day trial period, please reg-
ister it. The registration fee is $12.00 (U.S.). You can use the
registration form or order form that should be on the disk. Or

For a more complete discussion of the shareware concept, see the
last part of this document. Those who register will receive the
latest version of the game, a list of the places used in the game,
and the warm feeling of knowing you have done the right thing.
Supporting the author by registering will enable and encourage
him to spend more of his time producing Christian Software.

BIBLE JUMBLES 2 - PLACES is a game where you figure out what Bible
place name is jumbled up. To start the game, change to the drive
and directory where the game is. You must be in the same directory,
or you will get an error message. For example, you cannot from
the C:> prompt type "A:bplaces", it will not run. Switch to drive
A: and then type "bplaces". The game will work from either your
hard drive or a floppy disk. To install on your hard drive, just
copy the EXE file to the drive and directory of your choice.
NOTE: This program requires an EGA or VGA adapter and monitor.
After the opening screen disapears, you have five choices:
A The entire Bible, B Old Testament only, C New Testament only,
H High Scores, I Info on Bible Jumbles or ESCAPE to exit. Make
your choice and you are ready to play.
You will be given a jumbled place to figure out and three chances
to do so. You will notice in the lower right side of the screen
a visual clue telling whether the jumble is from the Old Testament
or the New. Just type in your guess. You can use the backspace
and insert keys to edit your answer. Then hit the ENTER key. If
you are incorrect, two other clues will appear on the right side
of the screen. One gives the first letter of the place name. The
other gives you what type of place it is. The place type clues are:
rivers, mountains, nations, regions, cities, and the catch-all,
'locations'. 'Locations' includes places that would not fit in
a specific category, or that it's category would have been too
small to give without giving away. (For example 'garden' as a place
type clue for Gethsemane.) You have two more chances. At the end
of each turn, your score is totaled and you are given the choice of
continuing or exiting. The game lasts twelve turns. (I settled on
twelve because it seemed like a good Biblical number, the twelve
tribes of Israel, and the twelve Apostles.)
Scoring (Revised from earlier versions): Getting the jumble
right on the first try is worth points six times the number of
letters in the jumble. On the second try, it is worth four times
the number of letters. And on the third try, two times. There
are also two types of bonus points. Bonus 1 is for streaks.
Each time you get consecutive jumbles correct, Bonus 1 is in-
creased by one point, up to 11 by turn 12. Bonus 2 is dependent
on the game option you choose. For example, there are many more
possible jumbles by playing the Entire Bible option than there
are by playing New Testament only. So the bonus points available
for each option are weighted. The Entire Bible has 4 bonus points
per turn, OT only has 3, and NT only has 2. Bonus 1 and 2
are added together and tripled for the first try and doubled for
the second try. A 10 letter jumble on turn 1 would be worth 72
points playing the Entire Bible option if it was answered right
on the first try. [(6x10) + 3(0+4)] If you got every jumble
correct, on turn 12, try 1, a 10 letter jumble would be worth
105 points. [(6x10) + 3(11+4)] Keep in mind that if you miss a
jumble on all three tries, Bonus 1 starts over next turn at zero.
There are no two or three letter names in the game (That would be
too easy.), so you will not find Ur, Nod, or Gog. The spelling
of certain places are varied in different translations of the
Bible. Though I relied mostly on the NIV, King James, and New
English Bibles for my spellings, what I tried to do was to use
the most common. I tried to point out alternative spellings in
the references. If two place names use the same letters in
their spellings, I put in the more important place. So we have
Marah instead of Ramah, and Horeb instead of Rehob.
The game was programmed with Borland's Turbo C and GENUS' GX
Series Developer's Pak.
If you find any misspellings in my references or names, please
bring them to my attention, and I will correct them in the game.

DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.

Users of BIBLE JUMBLES 2 must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
"BIBLE JUMBLES 2 is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
quential, which may result from the use of BIBLE JUMBLES 2."
BIBLE JUMBLES 2 is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
charge to the user for evaluation, though a small fee is permitted
to cover copying and shipping charges. Feel free to share it with
your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using BIBLE JUMBLES 2 and continue to
use it after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
istration payment of $12.00 to KING SOFTWARE. The $12.00
registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
same time.
PLEASE NOTE: Copying and distribution fees paid to a shareware
distributor are NOT part of the registration fee. King Software
receives no part of the copying and distribution fees paid to
distributors. Those fees are to cover the distributor's cost.
(And allow them a small profit.)
You are encouraged to pass a copy of BIBLE JUMBLES 2 along to your
friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users
will receive a copy of the latest version of BIBLE JUMBLES 2 and
a list of the places used in BIBLE JUMBLES 2.
You will also receive free support by mail if you have a problem
running the software. The free support will last for a year
after you register the program.

The Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the early days of shareware there were no real standards.
Independent authors had no efficient way to learn from each other
or to work together to improve the overall image of shareware.
There was no system in place to ensure that users were treated
fairly and professionally. There was no way for users to find an
address for an author who had moved. In short, the shareware
community was disorganized and each author did things the way he
or she thought was best. It was clear that if shareware was ever
to become a viable and respected marketing alternative, there had
to be some standardization. There had to be some guidelines to
best serve the users.
In 1987 a handful of shareware authors founded the Association of
Shareware Professionals (ASP). In forming this industry
association, these shareware authors had several primary goals in
mind, including:
o To inform users about shareware programs and about
shareware as a method of distributing and marketing
software.
o To foster a high degree of professionalism among shareware
authors by setting programming, marketing, and support
standards for ASP members to follow.
o To encourage broader distribution of shareware through
user groups and disk dealers who agree to identify and
explain the nature of shareware.
o To assist members in marketing their software.
o To provide a forum through which ASP members may
communicate, share ideas, and learn from each other.
The newly formed Association of Shareware Professionals worked
together to draft a code of ethics for all present and future
members. This code of ethics included several requirements that
soon became very popular among users (customers), including:
o A member's program (evaluation version) could not be
limited (crippled) in any way. In the true spirit of
Try-Before-You-Buy, users must be able to evaluate all the
features in a program before paying the registration fee.
o Members must respond to every registration. At the very
least they must send a receipt for the payment.
o Members must provide technical support for their products
for at least 90 days from the date of registration.
A new system was put in place to help ensure that users were
treated fairly and professionally. If a user was unable to
resolve a problem with a member author then the user could
contact the ASP Ombudsman with their complaint. The Ombudsman
would then try to help resolve the dispute. For more complete
details regarding the Ombudsman, please refer to the "ASP
Ombudsman Statement" below (page 8).
As of March, 1991, the ASP had over 300 author members and almost
200 vendor members, with new members joining every week.

People move. Forwarding orders expire. What can you do?
"I got a copy of a shareware program written by an ASP Member.
I sent in the registration fee and the post office returned my
letter saying that it was undeliverable. Now what do I do?"
If the author has moved then chances are very good that you have
an old version of the program. This is another situation that
the ASP can help you to resolve. ASP Members are required to
keep the ASP informed of address changes. If you need to obtain
