 Documents to compare are either retrieved from the library or from
 a disk file.

 If LOCation is "L" enter the name of a library text file.

 Enter in the pathname of the file(s) that you wish to add the library.
 The file(s) will be added to the library if either of the following
 conditions are met.

   1) If no prior versions of the file exits in the library.

   2) The last modification date on the file is more recent than
      the latest version in the library.

 The (?) and (*) wild card characters are supported in filenames and
 extensions.  The (?) means that any character can occupy that position
 in a filename. The (*) means that any character can occupy that position
 OR any of the remaining positions in the filename.

 Example:
     *.doc - processes all files in the current directory with a doc ext.
    a*.doc - processes all files in the current directory starting with
             the letter a and with a .doc ext.
     ?.*   - processes all one character files in current directory.

 A one line comment can be stored with each version of a text that
 is added to the library.

 When processing multiple files with wild cards, a single comment can
 be entered which is then stored with each Text added in that batch,
 you can be prompted individually for comments for each Text as it is
 added, or comment processing can be skipped for all file in the batch.

 Enter S:

    To be prompted for a single comment which will be applied to
    all Texts added.

 Enter D:

    To be prompted for different comments for each Text.

 Enter N:

    To skip comment processing.

 The ADD function prompts for disk file pathname(s) and adds them to
 the library.  Only files whose  modification date is greater than
 the corresponding text library version date are added.

 To add files to the library unconditionally use the FORCE option in
 the Utility menu.

 The use of <*> and <?> wild cards in pathnames is supported.

 The SELECT function is used to define a current text selection.
 This selection can then be used in the Xtract, Keyword, Report
 and Deletion functions to process groups of texts.

 Text selection is made by first moving the cursor to highlight the
 desired text and pressing the <+> key.  Pressing the <-> key
 unselects the highlighted text.  Pressing <F1> selects all texts,
 pressing <F2> unselects all texts and <F3> toggles all selections.

 Typing the name of text jumps the cursor to that text. The arrow keys,
 page_up and page_down move the cursor.

 Optionally, the SELECT function can be used to scroll through a
 library text on the screen by pressing <F4>.

 The KEYWORD function is used to maintain the association between
 keywords and library texts.  Keywords can be used in the Extract,
 Delete and Report options to perform processing on groups of texts.

 Keywords can be associated with a specific version or with the
 latest version of a text. This latter type of keyword association
 floats to the latest version of a text as new versions are added.

 To Add or Delete Keywords:
    1) Define a current selection of texts using the SELECT option.
    2) Select one of the following version modes using the
           VERSION option:
        a) Last     - maintains floating (latest version) keywords.
        b) All      - maintains keywords associated with any version.
        c) Current  - maintains keywords of latest version.
        d) Specific - maintains keywords for specific versions.
    3) Delete or Add Keywords.

  !NOTE: KEYWORD maintenance is performed only on selected texts
         and their versions defined by the VERSION setting.

 XTRACT retrieves text versions from a library and writes them to files
 on disk.

 The text versions to be extracted can be identified by one of the
 following means:

    a) Current SELECTion and VERSION mode.

    b) KEYWORD

    c) A specified text and version.

 Full pathnames and wildcards <*> and <#> for output files are
 supported. The wild card <*> when used in place of a filename
 or extension denotes the respective text name or text extension.
 The wild card <#> when used in place of an extension is replaced
 by the version number of the text being extracted.  This allows
 extraction of multiple versions of a text using one command.

 ATTIC provides the following two reports:

 1) HISTORY REPORT

      Displays version create date, library update date and
      comments for all versions of selected texts.  The text
      selection for the report is based upon a current
      SELECTion, a defined Keyword or specified text.

 2) KEYWORD REPORT

      Displays listing of keywords and their associated
      texts and/or versions.  Floating keywords are
      associated with version number <last>
      for their respective texts.

      The report can be sorted by keyword or text.

 Report output from either the HISTORY or KEYWORD reports can be
 directed to a screen or to an output file.

 VERSION defines which versions of SELECTed texts are processed by
 the KEYWORD and XTRACT options. The VERSION mode can be set to one
 of the following four values:

     Last    - Denotes that the latest version, is to be processed.
               Keywords defined with this mode set are not associated
               with specific versions. Rather they "float" and
               associate with the latest text at any point in time.

     Current - Keywords are associated with the latest version.
               In contrast to "Last",  if later versions are added, the
               keyword association does not "float" to the higher versions.

     All     - All versions are selected.  Used with KEYWORD and
               XTRACT options.

    Specific - A single version number is selected.  Allows keywords
               to be associated with specific versions.

 COMPARE compares two files or texts and displays their differences
 highlighted on the screen.

 The objects to be compared can reside either in the library or on
 disk.

 When defining the objects to be compared you must specify whether
 their location is either in the <L>ibrary or on <D>isk.  For library
 texts the version number and textname  is entered.  For disk files
 the appropriate pathname is entered.

 The Utility menu provides access to the following three options:

   1.  FORCE

       Unconditionally adds files to the library regardless of
       their date of last modification.  This is  in contrast,
       to the ADD option in the main menu which adds a file to the
       library only if its modification date is greater than the
       modification date of the latest version.

   2.  DELETE

       Deletes Texts or the current Library.  Text deletion can
       be specified by current selection, specific text, or keyword.

   3.  Reorganize

       Recovers space in library files caused by deletions.

 Setting the Version mode to LAST  causes the Keyword Option to
 create or delete "floating" keywords which always associate with
 the latest version of a text.  Keywords defined in this manner
 do not need to be redefined as newer versions of a text are added to
 the library.  They always point to the "latest" version.

 Keywords defined with this mode appear on Keyword reports as being
 associated with the version number "last" as opposed to any specific
 version number.

 These keywords can be deleted only if the Version mode is set to LAST.

 Setting the Version mode to ALL has the following effects on
 subsequent processing:

  1)  Any keywords added are associated with all versions of the
      selected texts.

  2)  Keywords associated with any version number of the selected
      texts are deleted by KEYWORD delete. This mode will not allow
      deletion of "floating" keywords which always relate
      to the latest version of a text.

  3)  Extracting library texts to disks under the current selection
      option of the XTRACT function will process all versions.

      (Be sure to use the <*> and/or <#> wildcards in defining the
      output filename to avoid attempting to overwrite the same disk
      file with multiple versions of the same text.)

 Setting the Version mode to CURRENT always selects the latest
 version number when processing SELECTED texts in the XTRACT or
 KEYWORD maintenance functions.

 Under the CURRENT Version mode any keyword additions are
 assigned to the latest version of the selected texts. As later
 versions are added the associations of these keywords
 DO NOT "float" to the later versions.  This is in contrast
 to the LAST Version mode.
