  1. Requirements for American BBS Association Membership:
  2.  
  3. 1. Operate an Electronic Bulletin Board System (BBS), Public or
  4.    Private, Free or Subscription which is available 24 hours a day.
  5. 2. Sign and return your agreement with the ABBSA Ethical Standards to
  6.    either your State ABBSA Chapter or the National ABBSA Office.

  9.             American BBS Association Ethical Standards
  10.  
  11. 1. I will not use or allow my BBS to be used for illegal activity.
  12.  
  13. 2. I will not allow my BBS to be used to distribute Pirated or
  14.    Copyrighted software except where software Copyright and\or License
  15.    agreements specifically allow electronic distribution and if such
  16.    software is uploaded to my board without my knowledge I will remove
  17.    it when I am made aware of it.
  18.  
  19. 3. I will restrict access to adult material by minors and I will make
  20.    ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS to verify that a caller is 21 years of age
  21.    before allowing that caller access to adult material.
  22.  
  23. 4. If I run a Public BBS I will not refuse access to any individual
  24.    on the basis of age, sex, religion, race, or ethnic origin except
  25.    restrictions to specific conferences that are necessary to provide
  26.    Private Conferences for particular age, sex, religious, racial or
  27.    ethnic groups.

  29. 5. I will support and promote the Right of Freedom of Speech and the
  30.    free exchange of ideas among individuals.

  32. I REQUEST MEMBERSHIP IN THE AMERICAN BBS ASSOCIATION. I OPERATE A FULL
  33. TIME BBS AND I SUPPORT THE ETHICAL STANDARDS OF THE AMERICAN BBS
  34. ASSOCIATION. I AGREE TO OPERATE MY BBS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE ETHICAL
  35. STANDARDS TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY.
