IconImage - Version 1.06
Requires WB 2.04 (minimum).
This utility enables updating of icon images via simple
drag & drop operations.
Ideally this utility should reside in WBStartup, for people who are
desperately trying to conserve memory this may not be desirable so
you can launch it from the Workbench as & when you need it.
This program cannot be run from the Shell or Cli.
When IconImage is launched it inserts a menu option in the
WorkBench Tools menu. If launched from the WBStartUp drawer
it will wait for the user to activate it via the menu. If
launched from any other directory the IconImage window will
pop up immediately.
The IconImage window is where you drop icons to be copied.
Dropping an icon in the window while in Source mode will cause
the icon to appear on the Workbench as an Application icon.
Grab the icon you want to update and drop it on the Workbench
"Source Icon" or change mode to Target and drop the icon onto
the IconImage window, hey presto it gets updated with the source
icon image.
You can also select multiple icons to be updated in one go,
hold down the shift key while selecting the icons an then drag
them onto the Workbench source icon (make sure that the MOUSE
POINTER is over the Workbench source icon when you drop them).
The program also works for items that have no icon and are being
displayed with a default tool or project icon, IconImage will
create an icon for these files and then put the source image
into it.
Why display the source icon on the Workbench ? The reason is
simple, it means that the icon can be fully displayed regardless
of it's size. It also means that it was easy to hold a source
icon and go updating many icons in different librarys without
having to respecify the source icon all the time.
If you can't find the IconImage window you can reselect the
IconImage menu option and the window will pop to the front.
You can shutdown the program completely and flush it out of
memory by clicking on the "Quit" gadget. You can hide the
IconImage Workbench source icon by double clicking on it.
You can hide the IconImage window by clicking on the standard
window close gadget, the program will still be available
from the Workbench Tools Menu.
This program does not do any icon type checking, you can copy
disk images to drawers, drawer images to tools, etc.
One problem with Intuition's Icon functions is that they don't
work on drawer icons that have no drawer, I've included a
dos script to automatically create the drawers but it will
only work on WB 3.0 and up (sorry about that).
The Icon Supplied uses the MagicWB palette so it will look
terrible for non MagicWB users.
This program is freeware, use and/or distribute as you wish
on a "NON Profit" basis.
Bug reports, Comments, ideas, POSTCARDS, gifts and requests
for new utilities all welcome.
