  5. MinWin is a small utility which lets you minimize dialogs and (nearly) all
  6. windows to only see the title bar.
  7. This is e.g. very useful for modeless dialogs such as some "Search and Replace"
  8. dialogs but also for all other windows.
  9.  
  10. If you are using e.g. any of Microsoft's programs, the "Search and Replace" 
  11. dialog i a modeless dialog. Modeless means that you can keep the dialog open
  12. while doing some other things. Now the problem is, that you can't make the
  13. dialog smaller and so you are wasting space on your monitor.
  14. With MinWin you can simply minimize the dialog (or any other window) so you
  15. will only see the title bar. If you need to use the dialog again you simply
  16. adjust its size to the original.

  19. MinWin requires Windows 3.1.

  22. Using MinWin
  23. ============
  24. The usage of MinWin is very simple.
  25. If you hold down the <SHIFT> key and double click on the title bar of any
  26. window the window will be minimized. A second double click with a pressed
  27. <SHIFT> key will restore the original size of the window.

  29. The minimized window has a minimal vertical size of 16 pixels. This is
  30. useful for windows which have no title bar and so minimizing the window
  31. would make it invisible.

  33. Some windows (like the "Annotate" window of Windows' help program) can only be
  34. minimized to a given minimal size.

  37. Installation
  38. ============
  39. The installation of MinWin is very easy:
  40. Copy MINWIN.EXE to any directory and run it.
  41. If you want to run MinWin any time you start Windows you have to add a new item
  42. for MinWin in your STARTUP group.

  45. Closing MinWin
  46. ==============
  47. If you want to close MinWin you have to run MINWIN.EXE a second time. This
  48. will close MinWin. But make sure you have no minimized window if you close
  49. MinWin because minimized windows will not be restored to their original
  50. size when you close MinWin.

  55. You can use and distribute MinWin freely, as long as the following files are
  56. not changed and you distribute all the files together:

  59. - MINWIN.EXE

  61. I wrote MinWin for fun, not for profit. That's why MinWIn is free and you don't
  62. have to pay a registration fee. I think it is a bad habit that more and more
  63. program authors want to have money for even the smallest program.
