- Installation, Update and
- Uninstall Instructions for
- FlashPoint Windows ZIP Navigator,
- Release 2.03.00.00
- ---------------------------------
-
-
- This is the latest version of FlashPoint Windows ZIP Navigator.
-
- =============================================================
- The file ZIPNAV.EXE is a self extracting Windows archive file
- which must be expanded to a temporary directory on your hard
- drive before FPSETUP.EXE is ran.
- =============================================================
-
- To install this product on your system, do the following:
-
- 1. Make a backup copy of your WINFILE.INI, REG.DAT and any
- existing FPZIP.INI files -- BEFORE RUNNING FPSETUP.EXE. If
- you have customized your ZipNAV File Manager pull-down menu
- settings, you will need to edit the new WINFILE.INI by
- transfering your menu commands from your old copy of WINFILE.INI.
- The editing can be performed using Windows Notepad.
-
- 2. Close any running copies of Windows File Manager. The setup
- program installs a new ZIPNAV File Manager Extension (FPZFMX.DLL),
- and if you are already running an old version of this DLL it will
- be replaced with the new version. If the new file is copied over a
- copy currently in use by File Manager, your system will become
- unstable and you may experience some General Protection errors --
- this problem is cured, if it occurs, by simply exiting and then
- restarting Windows. If Windows refuses to let you overwrite the
- FPZFMX.DLL or any other file, exit to DOS and manually copy same from
- the tempory directory to the applicable target directory (see,
- FP_NEWS!.WRI for a description of where each file is installed).
-
-
- 3. Run ZIPNAV.EXE (e.g., by double-clicking on the file's name
- in File Manager, or using the "Run" command available on the
- File Menu of Windows' Program or File Manager). This will expand
- all installation files to a user specified temporary directory.
- If you're reading this message, you've already completed this step.
-
- 4. Run FPSETUP.EXE (e.g., by double-clicking on the file's name
- in File Manager, or using the "Run" command available on the
- File Menu of Windows' Program or File Manager). This will start
- the FlashPoint Windows ZIP Setup program. This application is loaded
- automatically, in normal installations, if you ran ZIPNAV.EXE as
- stated in Step 3, above.
-
- 5. Answer the prompts that display on your screen as FPSETUP runs.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------
- Upgrade Note: If you have an earlier version of any of the
- FPZIP, ZIP Tools, or ZipNAV applications installed on your
- system, you will be prompted as to whether the existing
- files should be overwritten. You should allow the install
- program to overwrite all files, except an existing FPZIP.INI
- configuration file.
- ------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 6. Edit your new WINFILE.INI file, as indicated in item 1, above.
-
- 7. Add the FlashPoint ZipNAV application directory path to the
- "PATH=" statement in your DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT file, if the
- applications were not installed in an existing directory
- referenced in your AUTOEXEC.BAT "PATH=" statement.
-
- 8. Exit to DOS, reboot your computer and then reload Windows, so
- that the new settings will take effect.
-
- 9. Delete all files in the temporary directory from which you installed
- this product.
-
-

- Quick Start for Working with Existing Zip Archives
- --------------------------------------------------
-
- When ZIP files are associated with FlashPoint Windows ZIP Filer or ZIPX, a
- simple double-click with the mouse or pressing the ENTER key while a ZIP
- filename is selected, in FlashPoint's WinNAV or Windows File Manager shell,
- will execute the associated program and load the selected ZIP file for
- processing.
-
- By default, the FlashPoint ZipNAV Setup program, if used to install ZipNAV,
- associated all files having a "ZIP" file extension with FlashPoint's Zip
- Filer application (WZF.EXE). Therefore, if you double-click on any file
- name in Windows File Manager that has a "ZIP" file extension, FlashPoint's
- Zip Filer will be executed and the selected archive file will be loaded
- for further processing (e.g., viewing, unzipping, etc.).
-
- Refer to the applicable shell or file manager application's user manual or
- the Microsoft Windows User Guide, for information on how to associate files.
-
-
- Uninstalling Zip Navigator Files
- --------------------------------
-
- The standard FlashPoint ZipNAV installation can be uninstalled by following
- these steps:
-
- 1. Delete the following files, if installed, from the FlashPoint ZipNAV
- directory:
-
- WIZ.EXE WZF.EXE OPT.EXE
- FPZIP.EXE FPZIPX.EXE FPZXX.EXE
- FPZIP.WRI DISCOUNT.TXT CIS.ICO
- FP_NEWS!.WRI FPVIEW.EXE FPZIP.HLP
- FPZSYS.EXE COMPUSRV.TXT
-
- 2. Delete the following files from the Windows directory:
-
- FPZIP.INI
-
- 3. Delete the following files from the Windows System directory:
-
- FPZGRM.DLL FPZHRM.DLL FPZFMX.DLL
- FPZSMM.DLL FPZSFX.DLL
-
- Note: If the ZipNAV File Manager Extension is installed, you will have to
- close the Windows File Manager before you can delete the FPZFMX.DLL file --
- this may require you to exit Windows and delete the file from the DOS
- command prompt.
-
- 4. Delete the zip extension association line (referencing WZF.EXE) from
- the [Extensions] section of your WIN.INI file (located in the Windows
- directory), using a text editor such as NOTEPAD.EXE. See the Microsot Windows
- Users' Guide for additional information on WIN.INI file associations.
-
-
- 5. Delete the zip extension association information (referencing WZF.EXE)
- from the your REG.DAT file (located in the Windows directory), if any, using
- REGEDIT.EXE. See the Microsoft Windows Users' Guide for additional information
- on using REGEDIT.EXE.
-
- 6. Delete the [FlashPoint ZIP] section from the your WINFILE.INI file
- (located in the Windows directory), if any, using a text editor such as
- NOTEPAD.EXE. Also delete the line refering to FPZFMX.DLL.
-
- 7. Exit and restart Microsoft Windows.
