  11. Many people in the technical manual publishing and communications application
  12. industries recognize the Video Terminal Screen or Tech/Type name from our
  13. very-popular font Video Terminal Screen, an ANSI font available in TrueType or
  14. PostScript format containing the DOS character set. Thousands of technical
  15. writers use Video Terminal Screen (VTS) to show screen captures from DOS apps
  16. using word processors or desktop publishing applications in Microsoft Windows
  17. or on the Mac. Though it was never designed as a screen font, many software
  18. developers have licensed VTS for porting their DOS application to Windows
  19. instead of, or until developing a true Windows version.
  20.  
  21. In response to many, many requests; E A BEHL Technologies Tech/Type is
  22. currently working on a "refined" variation to VTS. The new typeface, called
  23. "Video Enhanced DOS Screen" (VEDOS), is similar to Letter Gothic; with sharp,
  24. crisp curved and slanted character outlines, yet still comprising the IBM-PC,
  25. PC-8, or OEM character set. The main advantage of VEDOS over VTS is that
  26. readability is much improved, and VEDOS works as an excellent, infinitely-
  27. scalable screen font for DOS apps running within a GUI operating system.

  29. Plans currently call for VEDOS to be available in three weights -- regular,
  30. bold, and reverse (white on black background). VEDOS will be offered initially
  31. in code pages 437 (US English) and 850 (European character set); with other
  32. character sets, such as the specific data terminal emulations, developed based
  33. on market requirements. VEDOS will be available in TrueType and PostScript
  34. formats for PC's.

  36. VEDOS is slated for release sometime in the Summer and will have a single-user
  37. price tag of $79 for the regular, bold, and reverse weights. Site licenses also
  38. will be available, and E A BEHL Technologies will offer distribution agreements
  39. to software developers wishing to include VEDOS with their products.

  41. Evaluation copies of the regular weight VEDOS are being offered for $30
  42. (available now - see the evaluation application following). As of this
  43. writing, version b3 is available in TrueType format, and contains alpha,
  44. numeral, punctuation, and graphic characters 32-127 and 176-223. Evaluation
  45. participants will receive updates electronically, and will be offered an
  46. attractive upgrade to the full product when it is available. The evaluation
  47. program will be offered only for a limited time, so if you're interested,
  48. hurry, don't wait!
