- Folks:
-
-
- Here it is, the new and improved WallBlaster, Freeware
- Version 1.20 ! Thanx to all who've downloaded the program and your
- support.
-
- The biggest delay to the release of WB 1.2 has been an
- elusive bug that was virutally impossible to find. Less than a
- handful of users (about 6 out of a possible 1000+ users) have
- reported that Windows crashed immediately after invoking WB 1.1.
- While I've been able to come up with a fix for the problem, I'm still
- trying to find the exact cause of the failure. Therefore, I've added
- two new switches in the WIN.INI profile for WallBlaster.
-
- [WallBlaster]
- Bgnd=0
- Quiet=1
-
- Setting Bgnd=0 in your WIN.INI file makes WallBlaster change
- the wallpaper in the foreground. This will prevent Windows from
- moving parts of the system while WB is working. If you don't
- explicitly set Bgnd=1, then WallBlaster will always decompress
- wallpaper files in the foreground. You MUST enable background
- processing by editing WIN.INI.
-
- If you set Quiet=1, then WallBlaster won't display the
- current wallpaper pathname in the program's caption. This change was
- made for those who didn't like the normal caption obliterating the
- captions of other applications.
-
- Just as before WallBlaster is easy to install. Simply move
- some full-screen wallpaper files to a file called WBLASTER.ZIP, put
- it and WB.EXE into your Windows directory and you're finished.
- Additional instructions are contained in the WallBlaster manual,
- WB.TXT. This version also introduces a minor physical change, in
- that the program has been split into two parts. WB.EXE is the
- WallBlaster executable, while the decompression routines are
- contained in a file called UNZIP.DLL. Both files MUST be in the same
- sub-directory, preferably in your Windows sub-directory. It's
- IMPORTANT to make sure that the old WB.EXE is deleted before
- installing the new software.
-
- WallBlaster, its DLL, and the wallpaper library can be placed
- just about anywhere you'd like on your hard disk. I recommend using
- the Windows sub-directory, since this will make the decompression
- routines work a little faster, since the library file and the
- wallpaper file will reside on the same disk. However, some of you
- have already discovered that the LibraryName= profile string can be
- set to something other than your Windows sub-directory.
-
- I had originally hoped to add a separate wallpaper library,
- but copyright problems make this much more trouble than it's worth,
- so you're on your own to collect some wallpaper. The CORNER and
- QPICS forums on CompuServe and the PHOTO conference on GENie have
- contributed many of my favorite wallpaper files. Two excellent
- sources for free GIFs, although sometimes hard to get to, are the
- Another Dimension BBS at (703) 667-3530 in Virginia and the Grafix
- BBS at (919) 443-2456 in North Carolina. The manual covers a few
- additional details about how to turn .GIF files into .BMP wallpaper
- files.
-
- I believe this will be the last freeware edition for a while,
- as I need to put all of WrightWorks' resources toward other pressing
- matters -- ending the Gulf crisis, finding a solution to world
- hunger, that sort of thing -- so I hope I've been able to cover all
- of the important changes requested in the past few weeks.
-
- Thanks again for your continued support. See you on the
- bboards.
