Connect an external modem to your HPC using either a modem cable supplied by the HPC vendor or a standard null-modem cable and a 9-pin to 25-pin adapter connected to the optional HPC serial communications cable.

When using an external modem with your HPC, make sure the modem is turned on before configuring a dial-up connection. Your HPC will recognize the external modem only as a generic modem on COM 1 (unlike modem cards, the HPC does not recognize specific types of external modems).

If you are unable to dial out using an external modem, you may need to add special modem commands to the dial string -- you can add these on the Call Options tab when configuring the modem. For more information, refer to your modem documentation.
