- XPROOF(ER)'s DEMO VERSION on INTERNET
-
- XPROOFER is text proof reader, speller and corrector for the maintenance of
- professional texts in one of the European languages. The linguistic mechanisms
- are tuned to the properties of any target language. These mechanism are
- insensitive for the usual limitations of spell checkers.
-
- XPROOFER is a WIN32 program meant for WINDOWS NT and WINDOWS 95.
- For many WINDOWS 3.11 systems XPROOFER can be used in combination with
- Microsoft's WIN32s packages for WINDOWS 3.11.
-
- An American English demonstration version of XPROOFER is stored in the file
- XPR_DEMO.ZIP. There are two directories: disk1 and disk2.
-
- For some distributions the "Reformed Dutch Spelling" is included.
- The language module agrees with the new recommendations of the
- Dutch/Belgian "Nederlandse Taal Unie".
-
- The XPR_DEMO.ZIP file has to be unzipped with
-
- pkunzip -d xpr_demo.zip
-
- Before continuing, please read the copyright notice in the file "copyrigh.ts"
-
- If you do not agree you have to delete any file belonging to *TALO's XPROOFER
- package; if you agree, you have to load each disk directory to a 1.4 meg
- floppy:
-
- Put a new empty floppy into the drive a:
- copy disk1/*.* a:
- Put a new empty floppy into the drive a:
- copy disk2/*.* a:
-
- For the Reformed Dutch spelling:
- Put a new empty floppy into the drive a:
- copy disk3/*.* a:
- Put a new empty floppy into the drive a:
- copy disk4/*.* a:
-
- Disk1 is the installation disk with the content:
-
- README.1st (this file)
- INSTALLS.EXE
- XPROOF.EXE
- XPROOF.HLP
- ENGLISH.DOC (the most ugliest demonstration text)
- STANDARD.TXT (dutch in progressive spelling style)
- WIN32S.TXT
- UP-DATE
- READ_PS.ZIP (the PostScript manual)
-
- Disk2 is the American English disk with the content:
- _AMERICA.LEX
- _AMERICA.IDX
- _AMERICA.ABB
-
- Disk3 is the first Dutch disk (Dutch 96 disk 1) with content:
- _NED961.LEX
- Disk3 is the second Dutch disk (Dutch 96 disk 2) with content:
- _NED962.LEX
- _NED96.IDX
- _NED96.ABB
-
- Please read the INSTALL.TXT, UP-DATE and README.1ST files.
-
- The READ_PS.ZIP can be unzipped and thereafter, printed on a PostScript
- Printer or it can be viewed with GhostScript (there are several sites
- distributing GhostScript and Ghostview; ftp: ftp.cs.wisc.edu:pub/ghost).
- If you can not print postscript, you can view and print the overview of
- XPROOFER from the help function in XPROOFER's main menu.
-
- Note that a correct installation only occurs when the installs.exe program
- on disk1 is executed.
- The installation procedure can be executed from the DOS-prompt:
-
- c:> a:installs
-
- For the first INPUT BOX:
- Do not enter an authorization number, any number will mismatch.
- However, do enter your name and company name.
-
- For the second INPUT BOX:
- Do enter the correct floppy e.g. a:
- Do enter the correct target directory for 32-bits executables, by preference
- c:\bin32
- Do enter the correct target directory for lexicons, by preference c:\spell
-
- "Installs" automatically appends the "autoexec.bat" file with:
-
- append c:\bin32
- set ispel=c:\spell
- set history=c:\spell
- set temp=c:\spell
-
- If not defined the program will not run.
- Please edit this variables in your autoexec.bat file, if necessary and
- test whether they are known to WINDOWS.
- Please check for the existence of the directories: c:\spell; c:\bin32 and
- c:\temp.
-
- c:\bin32 should contain the files:
- xproof.exe
- xproof.hlp
- c:\spell should at least contain the files:
- _ned96.lex
- _ned96.idx
-
- Thereafter you might create a new entry and group with the program
- manager (see README.PS) or you might use XPROOFER from the command line
- prompt:
-
- c:> copy a:ned_new.txt .
- c:> xproof ned_new.txt
-
-
- Note that two message boxes are presented. The first message signals demo only,
- and the second one signal no authority because no proper language was
- selected. You need to continue and selected one of the (demo) languages
- from the menu languages (American or Dutch 96).
-
- Thereafter you can use XPROOF and open a file.
-
- This WINDOWS NT/95 version also runs under WIN32S package for WINDOWS 3.11
-
- Please keep in mind that XPROOFER is meant for professional text correction.
-
- If you are interested in the commercial version please e-mail (jaapw@psy.vu.nl),
- call or fax
-
- This section is only meant for the Dutch language.
-
- DUTCH/NEDERLANDS: OMSPELLEN
-
- vermeden.
-
- Een enkel voorbeeld:
- Voor de voorkeurspelling wordt caravaan automatisch omgezet naar karavaan;
- voor de progressieve spelling wordt exakt automatisch omgezet naar exact.
-
- PROBLEM SOLVING:
-
- If the installation does not succeed in whatever manner, try to create
- the directories needed by Xproof:
-
- md c:\spell
- md c:\bin32
-
- and add the following lines to your autoexec.bat file:
-
-
- append c:\bin32
- set ispel=c:\spell
- set history=c:\spell
- set temp=c:\spell
-
- And reinstall XPROOFER
- After entering your affiliations, the next dialog shows the diskette station a,
- the target directories c:\bin32 and c:\spell
- xproof.exe and xproof.hlp will be copied to c:\bin32 and a confirmation
- messages appears. If not an error box will appear.
- Please, continue with the installation and select the American language.
- The American lexicon will be installed in the directory c:\spell.
- The xproof.exe and xproof.hlp can also be copied directly to c:\bin32.
- Please, assure that c:\bin32 is added to your PATH.
- Restart the system and check the path and environments (see above).
-
- If you install from program manager you need to enter
-
- a:installs
-
- However, now you have to specify the correct target directory for executables,
- by preference c:\bin32 !
