  8. Version 4.0b (8/95)

  11. Fixed a bug in version 4.0a that resulted in all new users' messages to
  12. be stored in the same individual message file.  If you experienced this
  13. problem with version 4.0a, do one of the following:
  14.  
  15. 1. The first time MessageWorks 4.0b is run, display the Callee Dialog Box
  16.    by clicking the button beside the To field, and delete every user (the 
  17.    user that performs this must have been given authorization to access 
  18.    and delete messages from the main message file in order to be able to 
  19.    delete other users).  This only needs to be performed by one user.

  23. 2. Before running MessageWorks 4.0b, run File Manager, and delete the 
  24.    files CALLEE.DAT, CALLEE.IX, USER*.DAT, and USER*.IX in the the 
  25.    directory that the MessageWorks 4 data files are stored in.

  27. After step 1 or 2 has been completed, the next time MessageWorks 4.0b 
  28. runs on each user's computer, their name will be added to the list of 
  29. users and they will see only messages sent to them.

  36.  1. The print function has been completely revamped.  Selection and setup 
  37.     of the printer, font style and size, and the number of copies can now 
  38.     be chosen, all from a single dialog box.  Text alignment on reports 
  39.     and labels has also been improved.
  40.  
  41.  2. Added the capability for a user to view the individual message file of 
  42.     another user.  This could be used to check for new messages for someone 
  43.     who is out of the office and calls in.  This option can be enabled or
  44.     disabled during installation.
  45.  
  46.  3. Enhanced the R-dex to work better with international addresses:  Added 
  47.     a 'Country' field.  'State' allows up to 10 characters for a state or 
  48.     province.  Up to 15 numbers or letters can be entered in the 'ZIP' 
  49.     field for any type of postal code.  The 'Company' field can be used as 
  50.     a second address line for long street addresses.
  51.  
  52.  4. Improved support for international date and time formats.  All date 
  53.     and time fields on messages and reports now reflect the formats 
  54.     defined in the International section of the Windows Control Panel.
  55.  
  56.  5. E-mail connectivity has been extended.  In addition to sending messages 
  57.     via Microsoft Mail, MessageWorks can also send messages via cc:Mail (or 
  58.     any VIM-compliant mail system).  MessageWorks detects which mail system 
  59.     is installed and sends it via that system when sending 'via Mail' (if 
  60.     both or no mail systems are detected, MessageWorks asks which system to 
  61.     use to send the message).

  63.  6. The item 'Sort Order in From Dialog Box' in the Preferences dialog box 
  64.     now also applies to the sort order of names in the R-dex.
  65.  
  66.  7. An additional item 'Sort Order in To Dialog Box' has been added to the 
  67.     Preferences dialog box, which sets the order names are sorted in that 
  68.     dialog box.
  69.  
  70.  8. Added the option during installation to enable or disable deleting of 
  71.     messages from the main messages file if the user is given access to 
  72.     read messages in the main message file.

  74.  9. The location field has been expanded to allow up to 75 characters for 
  75.     more descriptive entries (automatically scrolls left and right).

  77. 10. An additional menu item labeled 'Message' has been added to the menu 
  78.     bar.  This provides another way to send and read messages.

  107.     also send messages via Microsoft Mail (if Mail is installed on your
  108.     PC and the recipient's PC) for users who don't use MessageWorks.  A copy
  109.     of the message is also stored in the main message file.  (The Locator 
  110.     feature is not available if the user is not using MessageWorks).

  112.  9. For users that have their telephone on the same line as their modem,
  113.     MessageWorks can dial the telephone automatically.  Simply click on the 
  114.     label for any phone number field, click Dial, pick the headset, and
  115.     MessageWorks does the rest for you!

  117. 10. The ability to forward messages to another person has been added to the
  118.     Message Read window.  Simply click the Forward button and choose one or
  119.     more people to send the message to.   The name of the original recipient
  120.     and time of the original message is automatically added to the Message
  121.     Log field.

  128.  1. In addition to sending the same message to more than one person by
  129.     holding Shift while sending, multiple names can now be selected
  130.     from the pop-up Callee dialog box (hold down Shift to select a range 
  131.     of names or hold down Control to select multiple individual names).

  133.  2. A new field, Misc Info, has been added to the R-dex caller information
  134.     file for storing such information as E-mail address, home address, or
  135.     anything else you might want to remember about a caller.
  136.  
  137.  3. The pop-up Caller dialog box can now display names sorted by last name
  138.     or first name (you choose which way it is diaplyed in the Preferences 
  139.     dialog box).  Also, MessageWorks automatically matches what you type 
  140.     in the Caller listbox (similar to the automatic matching in the From 
  141.     field).

  143.  4. You can now read messages for all users simply by holding down Shift 
  144.     when clicking Read instead of selecting Read Messages for All Users
  145.     from the Preferences dialog box (if your installation has the capability
  146.     of reading all messages).

  148.  5. The R-dex files and messages can be stored on different drives or
  149.     directories if desired.

  151.  6. A new option, Find Next, has been added to the search dialog box.  This
  152.     take you to directly to the first record matching a search without
  153.     searching the rest of the data file.

  155.  7. A browse feature has been added to the Data File location dialog box
  156.     (and also to the installation program).  This allows you to select a
  157.     drive and directory with the mouse instead of having to key it in.

  185.     caller information for the identical name (instead of filling with all
  186.     callers and hilighting the first matching name), resulting in much
  187.     greater performance.

  198. 1. Installation program no longer requires the VBRUN300.DLL run-time 
  199.    library.
  200.  
  201. 2. If installing the program files on a network, you can select Configure
  202.    Workstation Only after the first installation.  This causes the setup
  203.    program to create configuration and icon files on the local machine
  204.    without copying the files again unnecessarily.  This will also prevent
  205.    sharing violations when installing onto a network while other users
  206.    are using MessageWorks.

  208. 3. Added an option to automatically run MessageWorks at startup if desired.

  211. MESSAGEWORKS

  213.  1. Added Message Log field to messages when viewing in Read window.  This
  214.     allows notes to be attached to a message that has already been taken.
  215.     This new field can also can be searched and it prints on the message
  216.     report.

  218.  2. If MessageWorks is already running, the current instance of MessageWorks 
  219.     is activated instead of loading a second copy of the program into 
  220.     memory when the MessageWorks icon is double-clicked in Program Manager.
  221.  
  222.  3. The network version only allows messages to be sent to other users who
  223.     have installed and run MessageWorks.  This prevents sending a message
  224.     that is never delivered because of misspelling a name, etc.
  225.  
  226.  4. Added scroll bar to the Notes field in the Message Read window and to
  227.     the Call Screening Response field in the R-dex window to allow longer
  228.     input.

  230.  5. Allows sending of the same message to more than one person by holding the
  231.     Shift key down when clicking Send.

  233.  6. Simplified entry of multiple callers in the R-dex with similar information
  234.     by holding Shift when clicking New.  The record is saved but only the
  235.     Name field is cleared.

  237.  7. Allows canceling of search and delete functions after they have been
  238.     started.  Also, MessageWorks does not tie up the whole system when
  239.     searching or deleting.

  241.  8. Added two help options on Help menu (Search and Help on Help).

  244.     pressing F1 or by clicking the Help button in any dialog box.

  250. 11. Added an option to select whether the hyphen SmartFILL features
  251.     (used in telephone fields) feature is active.  This saves time when
  252.     entering numbers with area code and prefix, but it can now be turned
  253.     off when entering international or local numbers (this option is
  254.     also found in File Preferences).

  256. 12. The setting of the 'Read Messages for All Users' control in File
  257.     Preferences is now saved from session to session.

  259. 13. Since MessageWorks message files are now only kept open when reading
  260.     messages (previously the main message file was open whenever a copy
  261.     MessagesWorks was running), file sharing errors when deleting all
  262.     messages will only occur if other users are reading the main message
  263.     file.

  265. 14. Added microscroll controls for message check delay in File Preferences
  266.     and the row and column edit controls in the Label Print function.

  268. 15. The sound assigned to the Windows Exclamation event is now played when
  269.     a network user receives a message (if system sounds are enabled).
