  25. <h1>Configuring the Adaptec Storage Manager agent</h1>
  26. <p>You can configure the Adaptec Storage Manager agent port number and alarm. You can
  27.   also configure the Adaptec Storage Manager agent to log events to the operating system
  28.   event log. To configure the agent, edit the file RaidAgnt.pps or adjust the
  29.   <a href="aagntgs.htm">General settings</a> in the Adaptec Storage Manager agent console.
  30.   RaidAgnt.pps is located in the same directory where you installed the Adaptec Storage Manager. If the RaidAgnt.pps file does not exist when you start the Adaptec Storage Manager
  31.   agent, a new file is created with the default settings.</p>

  46. <h2>Configuring the port number</h2>
  47. <p>The default port number for the Adaptec Storage Manager agent and console (client)
  48.   is 34571. To change the port number, edit the following line in the file RaidAgnt.pps:</p>
  49. <p><b>agent.startupPortNum</b>=34571</p>
  50. <p>For accessing remote systems, the Adaptec Storage Manager uses four consecutive ports
  51.   starting from the startup port: 34571, 34572, 34573, and 34574. If your system
  52.   has a conflict with these ports, change the startup port to a different port
  53.   number.</p>
  54. <h2>Configuring the alarm</h2>
  55. <p>When the Adaptec Storage Manager agent is started, it reads the alarm settings. When
  56.   a critical or fatal event occurs in the RAID subsystem, the Adaptec Storage Manager
  57.   agent triggers its alarm, if enabled. The alarm continues at the specified interval
  58.   until you either:</p>
  59. <ul>
  60.   <li>Correct all the critical and fatal problems (if agent.auto.off.alarm is
  61.     set to true).<br>
  62.     <br>
  63.   </li>
  64.   <li>Delete the file alarm.on. This file is located in the same directory where
  65.     you installed the Adaptec Storage Manager. When you delete this file, the alarm
  66.     stops until the next critical or fatal event occurs. The alarm.on file is
  67.     automatically created each time the alarm starts. </li>

  69. <p>You can configure the following alarm settings:</p>
  70. <ul>
  71.   <li><b>agent.enable.alarm</b> <br>
  72.     Specifies whether the agent alarm is enabled or disabled. Set this value to
  73.     true to enable the alarm or false to disable the alarm. The default value
  74.     is false.</li>
  75.   <li><b>agent.interval.alarm</b> <br>
  76.     Specifies the interval (in seconds) between audible alarms. The default is
  77.     300 seconds (5 minutes).</li>
  78.   <li><b>agent.auto.off.alarm</b> <br>
  79.     Specifies whether the alarm should turn off automatically when no more problems
  80.     are detected. Set this value to true to cause the alarm to turn off automatically,
  81.     or false to manually turn the alarm off. If you set this value to false, you
  82.     must delete the file alarm.on to turn off the alarm. The default is true.</li>

  84. <h2>Configuring event logging</h2>
  85. <p>The Adaptec Storage Manager agent logs warning and fatal events to the operating
  86.   system event log. You can <a href="aagntel.htm">view the event log </a>from
  87.   the Adaptec Storage Manager console. For Windows systems, you can also view the event
  88.   log with the Windows Event Viewer. For Unix systems, events are logged according
  89.   to the /etc/syslog.conf settings. (For more information, see the syslogd(8)
  90.   man page.)</p>
  91. <p>You can enable and disable event logging by editing the following line in the
  92.   file RaidAgnt.pps. Set the value to true to enable event logging (the default)
  93.   or false to disable event logging.</p>
