  22. <p>The Email Notification Manager is a tool that you can use to notify users by
  23.   email of events that occur on this (that is, the local) system. The user of
  24.   the system types recipient names and email addresses in the email notification
  25.   list. Each recipient in the list is notified of all or selected events that
  26.   occur on the local system.</p>
  27. <p>You can use the Email Notification Manager to:</p>
  28. <ul>
  29.   <li><a href="asmtpadd.htm">Add a recipient to the email notification list</a></li>
  30.   <li><a href="asmtpdel.htm">Delete a recipient from the email notification list</a></li>
  31.   <li><a href="asmtpmod.htm">Modify recipient properties in the email notification

  34.     list</a></li>

  39. <p>The Email Notification Manager is enabled by default. To disable the Email
  40.   Notification Manager, click <b> <b>Actions</b> <img src="images/menuarow.gif" width="32" height="10" align="absbottom" border="0">
  41.   Disable Email Notifications</b>. If you disable the Email Notification Manager,
  42.   events are generated but users do not recieve email notification when
  43.   the events occur.
  44. <h2>An example</h2>
  45. <p>You install SystemA in a lab with a Adaptec Storage Manager subsystem. You run the Adaptec Storage Manager on SystemA to monitor for events and problems. You want to monitor SystemA
  46.   from your workstation but do not have Adaptec Storage Manager installed. You open
  47.   the SystemA Email Notification Manager from the Adaptec Storage Manager and add your
  48.   name and email address to the email notification list. You are notified by email
  49.   of all problems and events that occur on SystemA. </p>
  50. <h2>The Email Notification Manager and its events</h2>
  51. <p>Events monitored by the Email Notification Manager include the following:</p>
  52. <ul>
  53.   <li>Progress information, such as rebuilds, synchronizations, and migrations.
  54.   </li>
  55.   <li>Problems, such as failed physical drives and <a href="gpfa.htm">S.M.A.R.T.
  56.     errors</a>. </li>
  57.   <li>Changes to the local configuration, such as creating a hot-spare drive or
  58.     defining a logical device.</li>
  59. </ul>
  60. <p>Each event has an <strong>event type</strong> indicating its severity: error,
  61.   warning, or informational. You can configure a recipient to be notified of errors,
  62.   errors and warnings, or errors, warnings, and informational events. </p>
  63. <p>When an event is generated on a system, the Email Notification Manager attempts
  64.   to <a href="csmtpmsg.htm">send a message</a> to each recipient in the email
  65.   notification list. If the Email Notification Manager successfully sends the
  66.   message, it updates the "<a href="asmtpmon.htm">Last message sent</a>"
  67.   column in the email notification list. If the Email Notification Manager does
  68.   not successfully connect or send the message, the Email Notification Manager:</p>

  70.   <li>Updates the "Last message sent" column with a <img src="images/s_error.gif" width="16" height="16" alt="Red X icon">
  71.     notifying you of a problem. </li>
  72.   <li>Logs an event in the Email Notification Manager event viewer detailing why
  73.     the message could not be sent.</li>

  75. <h2>The Email Notification Manager interface</h2>
  76. <p>The Email Notification Manager consists of the following:</p>

  78.   <dt>Toolbar</dt>
  79.   <dd>Provides quick-path icons for common tasks.</dd>
  80.   <dt>Email notification list</dt>
  81.   <dd>Displays the recipients configured to receive email notifications.</dd>
  82.   <dt>Email notification event viewer</dt>
  83.   <dd>Displays status information for the Email Notification Manager.
  84.     <p>In addition to displaying the events in the event viewer, the Email Notification
  85.       Manager appends each event to a logging file, RAIDSMTP.LOG. If this file
  86.       exceeds 200 KB, the Adaptec Storage Manager copies the file to RAIDSMTP.OLD and creates
  87.       a new RAIDSMTP.LOG. If there is a RAIDSMTP.OLD already, the Adaptec Storage Manager overwrites
  88.       it. The Email Notification Manager appends SMTP transport errors in a separate
  89.       log file, SMTPERR.LOG.</p>
