  8. <P>If your %SERVER% contains the following:</P>
  9. <UL>
  10.   <LI>One 1024 <A href="gmb.htm">MB</A> ready drive,
  11.   <LI>Two 2150 MB ready drives,
  12.   <LI>And four 4300 MB ready drives, </LI></UL>
  13. <P>Express configuration will create three logical devices and one hot-spare drive as
  14. follows: </P>
  15. <P><B>Logical device A:</B> The total capacity of this logical device is 940 MB (1 x 1024 MB - <a href="graidsig.htm">raid signature</a>) and
  16. it contains one, 940 MB RAID level-0 (<a href=craidvol.htm>simple volume</a>) logical device. </P>
  17. <P><B>Logical device B:</B> The total capacity of this logical device is 2066 MB (2 x 2150 MB - redundant storage - raid signature)  and
  18. it contains one, 2066 MB RAID level-1 logical device. </P>
  19. <P><B>Logical device C:</B> The total capacity of this logical device is 8433 MB (3 x 4300 MB - redundant storage - raid signature)
  20. and it contains one, 8433 MB RAID level-5 logical device. </P>
  21. <P><B>Hot Spare:</B> Express configuration defines one of the four 4300 MB
  22. drives as a hot-spare drive. </P>

  27.     <LI>When there are four or more ready drives of the same capacity, Express
  28.     configuration groups three of the drives into one disk group (as in logical device C) and
  29.     defines one of the drives as a hot spare. <BR><BR>
  30.     <LI>A hot-spare drive must be of equal or greater capacity than the drive
  31.     that it is intended to replace. In this configuration, the 4300 MB drive can
  32.     replace any failed drives in logical device B or logical device C. logical device A is not redundant,
  33.     therefore a hot-spare drive is not used. </LI></OL></DD></DL>
