  17. <h1>Using the Adaptec Storage Manager agent</h1>
  18. <p>The Adaptec Storage Manager agent includes the following components:</p>

  21.   <li>Email Notification Manager</li>
  22.   <li>Task Manager</li>
  23.   <li>Security Manager</li>

  26. <p> Because the agent runs as a background process, it uses less memory resources
  27.   than the Adaptec Storage Manager console. However, the Adaptec Storage Manager agent is
  28.   useful in the following situations:</p>
  29. <ul>
  30.   <li> The agent can relay events to any Adaptec Storage Manager console installed on
  31.     the local system or on a remote system. As events occur, the agent sends the
  32.     events to each remote system. Use the <a href="mnmmain.htm">Notification Manager</a>
  33.     from the agent console to add systems to the agent destination list.<br>

  36.   <li>The agent can notify users by email when events occur on the local system.
  37.     Use the <a href="msmtpmai.htm">Email Notification Manager</a> to add recipients

  46.   <li>The agent can use its built-in security to prevent unauthorized users from
  47.     connecting to the system. When security is enabled, the agent checks the security
  48.     list user name and password to ensure that only authorized users can log in

  50.     from the agent console to add users to the agent security list.<br>

  53.   <li>The agent can log events to the operating system event log, sound an alarm
  54.     when an event occurs, and broadcast critical or fatal events to users. Use

  63.   problems in the Adaptec Storage Manager configuration every 5 seconds. These changes include,

  67.   <li>S.M.A.R.T. drives</li>
  68.   <li>Failed battery</li>
  69.   <li>Failed or degraded logical devices</li>

  72.   <li>Non-warranted drives. An event is sent at startup, console connection, and
