  16. <p> Complete the following steps to choose the RAID level for the logical device:<br>

  18.   <li>Click the <strong>RAID level</strong> radio button to choose the RAID level
  19.     for the logical device. Only the most common choices appear in the list.<br>

  23.   <li>To choose a different RAID level, click <strong>Advanced settings</strong>;
  24.     then, choose a RAID level from the available options:<br>

  26. In addition to <a href="craidx0.htm">RAID Level-x0</a>, the Adaptec Storage Manager supports the following RAID types:<br>

  30.     <li><strong>Simple Volume</strong> - a single disk drive or <a href="gsegment.htm">segment</a>;
  31.       not redundant.<br>
  32.       <br>

  34.     <li><strong>Spanned Volume</strong> - two or more disk drives or <a href="gsegment.htm">segments</a>
  35.       with the same or different capacity, connected end-to-end. A spanned volume
  36.       offers no redundancy or performance advantage over a single drive.<br>

  38.     </li>
  39.     <li><strong>RAID Volume</strong> - two or more logical devices with the same
  40.       RAID level, connected end-to-end. The logical devices may have the same or
  41.       different capacity and are <strong>not</strong> <a href="cstripe.htm">striped</a>
  42.       together; they may be redundant, depending on the RAID level.<br>

  45.       create the individual logical devices before you create a RAID Volume. Use
  46.       the Configuration wizard to create the logical devices; then, run the Configuration
  47.       wizard again to create the RAID Volume.
