  10. <P>Create a disk group with three physical drives. Then, create two logical devices
  11. (labeled 1 and 2) in the disk group such that you have no available free space. The
  12. logical device stripes look similar to the following.</P>

  14. <P>Later, you decide you need additional space in the logical devices in the
  15. disk group. First, you must add more physical drives to the disk group. </P>

  17. labeled as <B>x</B> and <FONT size=4><B>*</B></FONT> in these examples. All
  18. blocks labeled <B>x</B> are the same size in logical device 1. All blocks labeled

  21. <P>If you add two additional physical drives to the disk group, the logical devices
  22. migrate such that they are striped across all five drives. The Adaptec Storage Manager
  23. expands the size of each logical device in proportion to the original
  24. configuration. If there originally was free space in the disk group, the free space
  25. is increased also.</P>

  32. <P>When increasing logical device space, you can add any number of physical
  33. drives, as long as the sum of the physical drives does not exceed the maximum
  34. physical drives allowed for the disk group. The maximum number of physical drives you
  35. can have in an disk group is limited by the controller <A
  36. href="cstripe.htm">stripe size</A>.</P>
