  19. <h1>Updating BIOS and firmware code</h1>
  20. <p> Before configuring the controller, you must have the latest BIOS
  21.   and firmware code installed on your %SERVER%. Complete the following steps to
  22.   update the levels of BIOS and firmware code:
  23. <ol type=1>
  24.   <li>Insert the <i> Adaptec RAID Installation</i> CD
  25.     into the %SERVER% CD-ROM drive, and turn on the %SERVER%. <br>
  26.     <p>The ROM Update Wizard automatically starts. The
  27.       ROM (read-only memory) Update Wizard is a program that updates the BIOS
  28.       and firmware code on Adaptec Storage Manager controllers. The wizard automatically identifies
  29.       and scans each controller. <br>
  30.     </p>
  31.     <p>If the BIOS and firmware code do not require updating, the wizard automatically
  32.       stops and the Adaptec Storage Manager program starts. Use the Adaptec Storage Manager
  33.       program to continue with configuring the controller. <br>
  34.     </p>
  35.     <p>If the BIOS and firmware code require updating, a report screen opens with
  36.       the following information: <br>
  37.     <ul COMPACT>
  38.       <li>Controller types found. </li>
  39.       <li>Controller slot number, if known. </li>
  40.       <li>Firmware version. </li>
  41.       <li>BIOS version. </li>
  42.       <li>Update status. If a controller has outdated BIOS or firmware code, the
  43.         ROM Update Wizard marks the controller as a candidate for
  44.         update. </li>

  46.     <p>The ROM Update Wizard asks if you want to update. You decide
  47.       whether to update, but you must update all or none of the controllers in
  48.       your %SERVER%; you cannot selectively update.<br>

  51.   <li>If you want to update your controllers, click <b>Update</b>. If
  52.     the wizard detects an error, an error message appears and you are prompted
  53.     to insert a diskette into your diskette drive. The wizard saves details about
  54.     the error to a file on the diskette.
  55.     <p>If you do not want to update your controllers, click <b>Cancel</b>.

  58.   <li>When all updates are completed, scroll through the Features window. This
  59.     window reports the changes that the ROM Update Wizard applied
