  20. <p>If the failed drives are not part of a disk group, contact your service representative.
  21. </p>
  22. <p>If a physical drive fails in a disk group or multiple physical drives fail in separate
  23.   disk groups (one physical drive per array), complete the following steps:
  24. <ol type=1>
  25.   <li>Replace each failed physical drive. The controller starts the
  26.     rebuild operation when it detects the removal and reinsertion of a drive that
  27.     is part of a disk group.<br>
  28.     <br>
  29.     <img src="images/note.gif" width="15" height="17"><b> Note:</b> (For a configuration
  30.     that contains a hot-spare drive) If you replace a failed physical drive, it
  31.     is not necessary to position the new physical drive on the same SCSI channel
  32.     and SCSI ID as the original hot-spare drive. The replacement physical drive
  33.     is automatically incorporated into the configuration as a hot-spare drive.
  34.     Here is an example of how this works: <br>

  37.       <li>The original configuration consists of a RAID level-5 logical device
  38.         composed of four physical drives. The physical drives are connected to
  39.         SCSI channel 1; they are assigned SCSI IDs 0, 1, 2, and 3. SCSI ID 3 is
  40.         a hot-spare drive. <br>
  41.         <br>

  43.       <li>The physical drive at Channel 1, SCSI ID 2, fails; the logical device
  44.         enters the degraded state. <br>
  45.         <br>
  46.       </li>
  47.       <li>The hot-spare drive at Channel 1, SCSI ID 3, is rebuilt into the disk group.

  49.         <br>
  50.       </li>
  51.       <li>You remove the failed physical drive at Channel 1, SCSI ID 2, and replace
  52.         it with a new physical drive. The new physical drive at Channel 1, SCSI
  53.         ID 2, is automatically assigned to be a hot-spare drive. <br>

  58.   <li>If a rebuild operation is in progress, wait until the rebuild is complete.
  59.     Otherwise, go to step 3.<br>

  62.     replacing multiple failed drives, you must wait for each rebuild operation
  63.     to complete before starting subsequent rebuild operations. <br>
