  15. <h1>Using the Security Manager </h1>
  16. <p> <img src="images/note.gif" width="15" height="17"><b> Note:</b> You cannot use the Security Manager when using:

  18.   <li> Adaptec Storage Manager in bootable-CD mode</li>

  21. <p>You can use the Security Manager to give users the ability to configure and
  22.   view controller information from remote systems. </p>
  23. <p> The Security Manager is enabled by default. You must configure at least one
  24.   user name and password before any user can connect to the local system. To disable
  25.   the Security Manager, click <b> <b>Actions</b> <img src="images/menuarow.gif" width="32" height="10" align="absbottom" border="0">
  26.   Disable security</b>. If you disable the Security Manager, any user can establish
  27.   a connection with the local system and modify the RAID subsystem. This might
  28.   create security concerns in a working environment. </p>

  35. <p>Use the following actions in the Security Manager to manage users' ability
  36.   to configure and view your local system:</p>

  40.   <li><a href="asmmod.htm">Modify a user</a></li>

  42. <p>The first time you open the Security Manager, the Adaptec Storage Manager prompts you to type
  43.   an Admin (administrator) password. Either type a password or click <b>Cancel</b>
  44.   to not have an Admin user. </p>
  45. <h2>The Security Manager interface</h2>
  46. <p>The Security Manager consists of the following:</p>
  47. <dl>
  48.   <dt>Toolbar</dt>
  49.   <dd>Provides quick-path icons for common tasks.</dd>
  50.   <dt>Security list</dt>
  51.   <dd>Displays the users with access to this system.</dd>
  52.   <dt>Security event viewer</dt>
  53.   <dd>Displays status information for the Security Manager.
  54.     <p>In addition to displaying the events in the event viewer, the Security
  55.       Manager appends each event to a logging file, RAIDSEC.LOG. If this file
  56.       exceeds 200 KB, the Adaptec Storage Manager copies the file to RAIDSEC.OLD and creates a
  57.       new RAIDSEC.LOG. If there is a RAIDSEC.OLD already, the Adaptec Storage Manager overwrites
  58.       it.</p>
