  3.                   The Windows95 Configuration Saver

  6. PLEASE PRINT THIS FILE FOR USE WHEN RUNNING PROGRAM YOU MAY WISH TO COPY THE ZIPPED PROGRAM TO A FLOPPY FOR SAFETY

  8.      THE INSTALL PROGRAM
  9.  
  10.     a. This is the program that creates the necessary files for SaveMe! to work.
  11.     It will create a directory called SaveMe! on your C: Drive (Sorry SaveMe!will not Work on any other Drive)
  12.     Do not delete the Directory SaveMe! or it's sub-directory SaveMe if you want this program to work!

  14.      THE SaveMe! PROGRAM
  15.  
  16.     a. After you have used the Install program you will find a new directory on your c:Drive called SaveMe! 
  17.     There you will find the file SaveMe.bat this program will save your configuration files. I Have included a shortcut that you may copy to your desktop (or wherever else you want it)

  19.     b. When you double click on the SaveMe! program You will be asked for a Floppy disk to be formatted in your A; Drive (Sorry SaveMe!will not Work on any other Drive)
  20.     At the end of the format process you will be asked if you want to format another,choose (N) & press enter
  21.     
  22.     c. The SaveMe! program will provide the necessary files to restore your configuration files, from a floppy drive.

  24.     d. Remove Disk from Drive Label it SaveMe (along with the date)
  25.     
  26.     e. To run the program simply go to the Start Menu and look for SaveMe

  29.      THE RESTORE PROGRAM
  30.  
  31.     a. This program runs from your floppy drive ( a copy is kept in the SaveMe!Directory for future use)
  32.  
  33.     b. To use this program, 
  34.     1. Reboot your Computer
  35.     2. Wait until Starting Windows95 text appears on your screen
  36.      3. Press F8. 
  37.     4. When you get to the selection screen choose Command Prompt Only 
  38.     5. At the C: prompt Type A:
  39.     6. Once you reach the A: prompt Type RESTORE & press enter
  40.      (CAUTION DO NOT RESTORE FROM A WINDOWS 95 DOS WINDOW, 
  41. ALWAYS RESTORE FROM THE COMMAND PROMPT)

  43.      7. IMPORTANT!!! THIS PROGRAM RESTORES YOUR CONFIGURATION FILES TO THE STATE THEY WERE AT THE TIME YOU MADE THE DISK. ANY CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE SINCE THEN WILL NOT BE RESTORED. AS ALWAYS WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DATA LOST WHETHER THIS PROGRAM IS USED CORRECTLY OR INCORRECTLY.

  45.     c. Please make a separate Boot Disk. SaveMe! will not boot your computer. If you don't know how to make a Boot Disk consult Your Windows 95 help file.

  48.     WHY I WROTE THIS PROGRAM
  49.  
  50.     a. I wanted a simple way to restore my computer even though Microsoft includes the program ERU (Emergency Recovery Utility) I found it sadly lacking. If your System .dat is to large ERU simply doesn't copy part of the file, and you are given no warning this has taken place.

  52.     b. I also wanted a program that used a single diskette.

  55.     SaveMe WON'T WORK
  56.  
  57.     a. SaveMe! assumes that Windows is a directory on your C: Drive (C:\Windows) if you installed or moved Windows to a different Drive (D, E, F)  or installed or moved  the Windows directory to a directory with a different name (Win, Win95, Windows95) SaveMe Won't work.

  59.     b. As mentioned above the SaveMe Directory must exist on your C: Drive . Many problems are caused by failure to use the Install program.

  61.     c. SaveMe! still won't work. Sorry no other help is available at this time.

  63.     HOW TO REMOVE SaveMe

  65.     a. Simply Remove the directory C:\SaveMe & all it's Components. Also remove The SaveMe directory on your Start menu.

  69.     a. How about a program that allows you to choose which files you want to restore. It is possible with SaveMe+.
