  1. Thank you for purchasing the InfoMagic WinSite CD-ROM Set.  This CD-Set is
  2. a snapshot of the WinSite archive as of25 March 1996.  Some files in the
  3. archive cannot be distributed commercially and these have been left as
  4. links to http://www.winsite.com.  Some older files from the archive have
  5. been also been removed.  These are still available at www.winsite.com, but
  6. many no longer function with current versions of Microsoft Windows.  The
  7. Windows 95 & Windows NT archives are complete as they were on
  8. www.winsite.com as of the production date.
  9.  
  10. This CD set is mastered in ISO-9660 Level 1 format, meaning all
  11. filenames have been converted to uppercase.  This is to insure
  12. compatibility with Windows NT 3.51 and DOS which cannot read lower
  13. case files or directories.  Some files appear with long names and
  14. extensions when viewed with Windows NT or Windows 95.  DOS will see
  15. truncated filenames and extensions.

  17. We have provided copies of the Microsoft Internet Explorer for
  18. Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT.  These are in the "explorer"
  19. subdirectory in the root of the CD-ROM.  If you do not already have a
  20. WWW browser installed on your system, you will want to install
  21. whichever version matches your operating system so you can use the
  22. included "html" files to access the archives.  The instructions for
  23. installing each version of the Microsoft Explorer appear below.

  25. Once you complete that installation, or if you already have a WWW
  26. browser installed, simply open the file "index.htm" in the root
  27. directory of the CD.  Each CD in the set contains an "index.htm" file
  28. that references the files on that CD.  The entire Windows 95 &
  29. Windows NT archives are contained on Disc 4.  The Windows 3.1 archive
  30. is spread across Discs 1, 2, and 3.  For ease of locating files the
  31. complete index of Windows 3.1 software is available on each of the 3
  32. Windows 3.1 discs with an indication of which CD each catagory is on.

  49. INSTALLING MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER FOR WINDOWS 95

  52. Since the shareware on this CD is 32-bit, all of it will run on Windows
  53. 95, and the large majority of it will run on Windows NT. We have
  54. included versions of the Internet Explorer Web browser for both
  55. of these platforms.

  57. To install Internet Explorer for Windows 95:
  58. 1. Click the Start menu
  59. 2. Click Run
  60. 3. Type d:\explorer\msie20.exe
  61. (This assumes that your CD-ROM drive is drive D:. If your CD-ROM drive
  62. uses a different drive letter, type that letter instead.)

  68. To install Internet Explorer for Windows NT:
  69. 1. Open the File Manager
  70. 2. From the File menu, click Run
  71. 3. Type d:\explorer\msie15i386.exe
  72. (This assumes that your CD-ROM drive is drive D:. If your CD-ROM drive
  73. uses a different drive letter, type that letter instead.)

  76. INSTALLING MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER FOR WINDOWS 3.1(1)

  79. The Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1(1) is a 32-bit
  80. application and requires that you either already have the Win32S
  81. libraries loaded on your system, or install those libraries prior to
  82. running the explorer.  A copy of these is provided in the "explorer"
  83. directory as PW1118.EXE
  84.  
  85. To install the Win32S libraries:
  86.  
  87. 1. Create a temporary directory on your hard disk.
  88.  
  89. 2. Either "cd" to the temporary directory and execute "PW1118.EXE"
  90.    from the "explorer" directory on the CD, or move this file to the
  91.    temporary directory and "double-click" on it from the file
  92.    manager.
  93.  
  94. 3. Run "setup.exe" from the temporary directory to start the
  95.    installation.
  96.  
  97. 4. You may delete the temporary directory you created and its
  98.    contents if you like following the installation.

  101. To install Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1, 3.11, or Windows for
  102. Workgroups 3.1 & 3.11:

  104. 1. Create a temporary directory on your hard disk.
  105.  
  106. 2. Either copy the file "msie16.exe" from the "explorer" subdirectory
  107.    on the CD to your temporary directory and double-click on it from
  108.    File Manager, or at a DOS prompt execute that file while cd'd to the
  109.    temporary directory.

  111. 3. In File Manager, double-click Setup.exe. See Readme.txt for details
  112.    on what Setup.exe installs.

  114. 4. You can delete the temporary directory you created and its contents
  115.    if you want.
