  1.                                     SPECIAL HINTS FOR PLAYING SAM RUPERT

  3. • To skip the opening credits, press any key and you will go directly to the main selector menu.

  5. • There is a time bonus of ten minutes hidden somewhere in the program.  Look for it, but when you find it, don't get greedy.
  6.  
  7. • Watch for the "Killer Clue".  This is the clue that will clearly identify the murderer.  But it's difficult to find.

  12. Q: I sometimes click on an object or option button and nothing happens.
  13.  
  14. A: If you click and nothing happens, it probably means that the screen has not loaded fully into memory.  Wait a few seconds and try again.
  15.  
  16. Q: I want to move items in the Notebook into other sections, but I can't.
  17.  
  18. A: The Notebook has a delete function, but no cut and paste.  Sorry, we're working on it.

  20. Q: When I'm writing and editing in the Notebook, it would be nice to edit blocks of text instead of individual letters.

  22. A: If you'd like to select a word, point to it with the cursor and double-click.  If you'd like to select a whole field, point anywhere in it and triple-click.  Now you may delete or over-write.

  24. Q: I sometimes get repeat entries in my Notebook.
  25.  
  26. A: The program is organized to send a note to the Notebook each time a section is entered.  If you have entered a section twice within the course of investigating, this note will be entered twice, even though you are not time-charged for the second entry.

  28. Q: Sometimes when I'm in Reservations, I get an entry without clicking on it.

  30. A: This may mean you have double-clicked by accident.  Be careful of the hair-trigger click!

  32. Q: I sometimes click on "Help" from inside a section, and go to the Main Help menu instead of the local Help menu.

  34. A: When you are in a particular section, say the restaurant, and you click on the Help icon, you should access help for that section alone.  If you go to the main Help menu instead, it probably means you double-clicked.

  36. Q: Sometimes voices are faint

  38. A: Try adjusting the volume of your computer with the sound control panel.
  39.  
  40. Q: When I watch the video clips, the sound isn't in synch with the video.
  41.  
  42. A:  Under System 6.0.x QuickTime™ has difficulties synching sound with video.  Try switching to System 7.0.x.
