  5. This file contains technical notes and setup instructions for
  6. American Sign Language CD.

  19. 1)  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS WINDOWS

  33. 2)  GENERAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  34. -------------------------------------
  35. The following are instructions for installing American Sign Language
  36. on your hard drive.  This procedure installs a few small files 
  37. onto your hard drive that allow you to run our program.  Please note 
  38. that after installing, the CD disc must be in the CD-ROM drive 
  39. whenever you wish to run American Sign Language.
  40.

  42. 1. Insert the American Sign Language CD disc into the CD-ROM Drive 
  43.    and the program will install automatically.
  44. 2. After the installation is completed, go to the START menu and
  45.    select PROGRAMS -->American Sign Language-->American Sign Language
  46.  
  47.    If your CD-ROM drive does not support Autoplay:
  48.  
  49. 1. Insert the American Sign Language CD disc into the CD-ROM drive.
  50. 2. Go to the START menu on the taskbar and click RUN. 
  51. 3. Type D:\SETUP.EXE (where D is the letter name of your CD-ROM
  52.    drive) and click OK.
  53. 4. After the installation is completed, go to the START menu and
  54.    select PROGRAMS -->American Sign Language-->American Sign Language
  55.

  58. --------------
  59.  If you reinstall American Sign Language3 over an existing version 
  60.  everything in that directory will be overwritten. For instance, if 
  61.  at the time of install you directed American Sign Language to install in 
  62.  your "personal" directory where you keep all your sign language related programs 
  63.  and then you need to reinstall American Sign Language for some reason you 
  64.  will be prompted to overwrite the directory "personal". If American Sign Language
  65.  is the only thing in the "personal" directory it is safe to 
  66.  overwrite it. If you have other programs in the same directory, DO 
  67.  NOT OVERWRITE the directory, call our technical support and we will 
  68.  be happy to assist you.

  71. 3) ONLINE ACCESS
  72. ----------------
  73. If you have an internet service provider and you would like to visit
  74. the Multimedia 2000 website, go to the START menu and select 
  75. PROGRAMS -->American Sign Language-->M-2K Online
  76. to go to http://www.m-2k.com

  79. 4)  NOTES ON UNINSTALLATION
  80. ---------------------------

  82. If you wish to completely remove American Sign Language from your hard 
  83. drive, go to the Start Menu and select Settings -->  Control 
  84. Panel --> Add/Remove Programs.  In the Dialog Box that appears, 
  85. select American Sign Language CD from the list of installed 
  86. programs and click on the Add/Remove button.  This will completely 
  87. uninstall the program from your hard drive.  It is NOT recommended 
  88. that you merely drag the folder containing American Sign Language 
  89. to the Recycle Bin.  This is true for most programs under Windows.

  92. 5)  PERFORMANCE TIPS
  93. --------------------
  94. The following tips will help improve the performance of any 
  95. multimedia CD-ROM title that makes extensive use of audio and 
  96. video.
  97.  
  98. 1) Turn off Wallpaper and Screen Savers
  99.     Click the right mouse button on the desktop.  Click on 
  100.     Properties at the bottom of the menu.  Choose <None> for the 
  101.     Pattern and Wallpaper settings.  Click on the Screen Saver tab 
  102.     and choose <None> for the Screen Saver setting.
  103.  
  104. 2) Make sure no other programs are running in the background while
  105.     running the CD-ROM title.
  106.

  108. 6)  TROUBLE SHOOTING
  109. --------------------
  110.  
  111. Product Feature Help:  
  112.        American Sign Language has online help in each section.  You 
  113.        can access it at any time by selecting Help.
  114.  
  115. PROBLEM:
  116.        Audio plays, but videos are not visible
  117.  
  118. SOLUTION:
  119.         Be sure you have installed Apple's QuickTime software found
  120.         on the CD-ROM in the "QuickTime for Windows" directory.
  121.  
  122. PROBLEM:
  123.        You are receiving the message: For American Sign Language to 
  124.        run correctly, the color palette must be set to High Color 
  125.        (16-bit).
  126.  
  127. SOLUTION:
  128.        Using the right mouse button, click on the desktop. Select 
  129.        Properties from the pop-up menu. Select the Settings tab.
  130.        Under the Color Palette pulldown menu select High Color (16 bit)
  131.        and Restart your computer.
  132.  
  133.  
  134. PROBLEM:
  135.        Errors displaying files, reading the CD-ROM drive, and 
  136.        printing (among assorted others).
  137.  
  138. SOLUTION:
  139.       Do not run any other applications simultaneously with American 
  140.       Sign Language. This includes any TSR's or Startup applications. 
  141.       (e.g. Microsoft Office or Bookshelf, Packard Bell Navigator).
  142.       There should be no other programs listed in the task bar at the
  143.       bottom of the screen.

  147.      Increase the size of Virtual Memory Swap File.  Please refer to 
  148.      your Windows manual for instructions on this procedure.  (We 
  149.      recommend a swap file of at least 7 megabytes.)
