Medical Multimedia Group is an association of health care providers
involved in developing unique computer applications for enhancing the
efficiency of the practicing physician. Our efforts are directed
towards the aspects of medical care that involve the collection,
assimilation, and dessimination of information that will ultimately
be used to care for patients.
Members of Medical Multimedia Group are currently actively involved
with the development of an integrated healthcare network for the
State of Montana. Our goal is to provide access to telecommunications
technology for the practicing rural physician, in order to promote
information exchange, continuing medical education, and clinical
consultation via computer link. We are particularly interested in
medical image acquisition and transmission via computer, and promoting
the use of image transmission to enhance the effectiveness of
telecommunication technology. To meet these goals, we are developing
low cost solutions for image acquisition and transmission from a host
of sources; including radiaological data, videoarthroscopes, and
videolaproscopes.
Patient Education is the major interest and focus with members of
Medical Multimedia Group at present. Computer-based patient education
is a relatively new concept that we are sure will prove to be more
effective and efficient than traditional mediums. We are developing
software for patient education utilizing the computers unique ability
to combine graphics, animation and text in a multimedia presentation.
These presentations attempt to educate patients in a wide variety of
common disease processes, and will incorporate the concept of documented
informed consent for surgical procedures; utilizing the computer to
inform, test, and document the patient's knowledge of certain routine
procedures prior to surgery.
Continuing Medical Education for physicians and allied healthcare personnel
is also a high priority for Medical Multimedia Group. We currently have
several projects in development that utilize the evolving tools of multimedia
in CME.
Software Availability
Medical Multimedia Group currently has developmental versions of patient
education software available for review. Topics include Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome (including a documented informed consent module), and Back Pain.
A third topic, Shoulder Problems, is nearly complete.
Hardware Requirements
Patient education software designed by Medical Multimedia Group requires
an MS-DOS computer with a 286, 386, or 486 processor. We highly recommend
a 386SX, or better processor. In addition, the programs require a display
adapter and monitor that are capable of displaying 640X480 resolution in
256 colors, and a microsoft compatible mouse.
Consultation
Medical Multimedia Group is available for consultative services and will
be happy to discuss the development of software presentations tailored to
the specific needs of your practice situation.
