  1. There are two versions of the snd-util package in this
  2. directory. snd-util-3.7.tar.gz is the official version
  3. and it works with all OSS and OSS/Free releases.
  4.  
  5. snd-util-3.8-beta#.tar.gz (or snd-util-3.8.tar.gz) is
  6. almost similar than version 3.7 but it contains
  7. minor enhancements to couple of programs. In addition
  8. first version of OSSlib (freeware version) is included
  9. in it. OSSlib requires version 3.8-beta2 or later
  10. of OSS driver to work.

  12. What is OSSlib?

  15. OSSlib is a simple library which supports loading
  16. of General MIDI instruments to cards such as 
  17. OPL3 or GUS. OSSlib is mainly intended for MIDI
  18. persons writing MIDI software and who like to use
  19. GUS, OPL3 and other synthesizer devices which
  20. require patch loading. With OSSlib it's possible to
  21. write MIDI programs so that it works without changes
  22. with any synth devices to be introduced in future.
