  1. Registration
  2.  
  3.      Need custom clipart for use in a drawing or
  4. presentation program?  ClpMap may be your answer.  ClpMap,
  5. however, is not free software.  As a shareware product, you
  6. are invited to copy and try ClpMap without charge, and to
  7. copy and freely distribute ClpMap in its original form to
  8. other PC users.  If, after evaluating ClpMap, you wish to
  9. continue using this software on your system, it will be
  10. necessary to become a registered owner.  To register for
  11. ClpMap, simply print the registration form by printing the
  12. file register.doc (use the DOS command COPY REGISTER.DOC PRN)
  13. and follow directions on this file.  The form can also be printed
  14. after installation of ClpMap by opening ClpMap and selecting
  15. HELP then REGISTER from its main menu and following directions.

  17. Hardware requirements
  18.  
  19.      ClpMap requires a PC or compatible computer running
  20. Microsoft Windows 3.0 or later.  It will run on almost any
  21. PC with a hard disk and compatible with Windows.  In
  22. general, however, a fast higher end machine (80386 or better
  23. with a math coprocessor and at least 2 Meg RAM) is
  24. recommended is order to speed up map generation.  With a
  25. slower machine, and especially without a math coprocessor,
  26. generation of the map data can be very slow, especially for
  27. a satellite view at full resolution.

  29. Details of the world database
  30.  
  31.      ClpMap uses an extremely detailed world database called
  32. the Micro World Data Bank II (MWDBII).  This database was
  33. placed in the public domain by Fred Pospeschil and Antonio
  34. Riveria and was derived by them from a much larger database
  35. created by the CIA and distributed by the US Department of
  36. Commerce for a cost of $660.

  38.      The database distributed with ClpMap is separated into
  39. six separate files including data for coast lines, islands,
  40. lakes, rivers, country boundaries and state boundaries (USA
  41. only).  It is identical with that placed in the public
  42. domain except that an extraneous curve found in the states
  43. data file has been eliminated (the curve appeared to define
  44. an air route into Berlin), and several curves in the lakes
  45. database were actually islands in the extreme northern
  46. regions of Canada and were moved to the islands database
  47. file.  Also, the two files distributed with MWDBII
  48. containing coast line data have been combined into a single
  49. file.

  51.      ClpMap is distributed both with and without its
  52. database.  If you have the original MWDBII data files you do
  53. not need the ClpMap database.  The program instdata.exe,
  54. distributed with ClpMap, will modify the original MWDBII files
  55. so that they are identical with those distributed with ClpMap.

  57. Installation
  58.  
  59.      The version of ClpMap distributed through the BBS includes
  60. the program file clpm1_0.zip and the data files clpdt1.zip and
  61. clpdt2.zip.  If you do not have the original MWDBII data files,
  62. you must download the files clpdt1.zip and clpdt2.zip.

  64.      Copy all *.zip files to a subdirectory on your hard disk and
  65. decompress them using pkunzip.  After decompression, the following
  66. files should exist.

  89.             utility will convert the original MWDBII
  90.             database files for use with ClpMap.

  106. Getting started

  108.     If the original MWDBII data files are being used, copy
  109. the files coast1.pnt, coast2.pnt, country.pnt, state.pnt,
  110. island.pnt lake.pnt and river.pnt into the ClpMap subdirectory
  111. and run the utility instdata.exe to convert them for use
  112. by ClpMap.  After running this utility, the ClpMap subdirectory
  113. should contain all of the files listed above.

  115.     To install ClpMap into a Windows program group, open
  116. windows then open the desired group and select File then New
  117. from the Program Manager's main menu.  Select Program Item then
  118. enter the path name to the file clpmap.exe under Command Line.

  120.      Once selection is complete and the dialog is closed by
  121. selecting OK, an icon resembling a world globe will appear.
  122. ClpMap can now be started by double clicking on this icon.
  123. ClpMap is designed to be intuitive to operate and includes a
  124. help system which should make it straight forward to learn
  125. simply through experimentation.  For additional help, print
  126. the clpmap.doc file by using the command COPY CLPMAP.DOC PRN.
