  22.  Hardware: 286 or 386 PC with at least 1 megabyte of RAM. VGA or better
  23.            graphics hardware.
  24.  
  25.  Software: Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher running in either Standard
  26.            or Enhanced mode.
  27.  
  28.            A sound driver capable of playing .WAV files (such as for a
  29.            SoundBlaster card or the PC speaker).

  31.            VBRUN100.DLL, the royalty-free Visual Basic runtime DLL file.
  32.            This DLL is widely available.  It can be found on CompuServe
  33.            in the Microsoft Windows Advanced Forum (GO WINADV) as
  34.            VBRUN1.ZIP in library #16 and on GEnie in the IBM PC RT
  35.            (IBMPC) as VBRUN.ZIP. It can also be found on BBS systems and
  36.            in shareware disk vendor catalogs throughout the world.

  39.  PURPOSE
  40.  -------

  42.  WAVER is a simple sound player for Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher.
  43.  
  44.  Formers users of Aaron Wallace's Sounder and Dsound.Dll are used to
  45.  being able to launch .SND documents and have them play.  Under Windows
  46.  3.1, this isn't the case - launching a .WAV file calls up the Sound
  47.  Recorder, with the .WAV file loaded in memory.
  48.  
  49.  WAVER is similar to the Sounder half of Sounder and Dsound.Dll.  Once
  50.  installed, launching a .WAV document will simply play the sound.
  51.  
  52.  This allows greater flexibility for organizing and playing sounds.  For
  53.  example, you can now install all of your sounds in a Program Manager
  54.  group. Double-clicking their icons will now simply play them, as with
  55.  Sounder.

  58.  INSTALLATION

  61.  Place WAVER.EXE in whatever directory you wish.
  62.  
  63.  Load File Manager, and select a .WAV file.
  64.  
  65.  Choose "Associate..." from the File menu in File Manager.

  67.  The "Associate" dialog box now appears.  Click in the "Associate With:"
  68.  text box and enter the full path to WAVER (for example, if Windows is on
  69.  your C: drive and WAVER is in your Windows directory, the full path to
  70.  WAVER might look like this: "C:\WINDOWS\WAVER.EXE"). Then click "OK."

  76.  INSTALLING ALL OF YOUR .WAV FILES IN A PROGRAM MANAGER GROUP

  79.  If you'd like to have all of your sound files in a Program Manager
  80.  group, simply size the Program Manager and File Manager so that they are
  81.  both visible and side-by-side.

  83.  Create a new group in the Program Manager.  In this example, we'll name
  84.  the group "Sound Files." Click "New..." from the File menu in Program
  85.  Manager.  The "New Program Object" dialog box now appears.  Click on the
  86.  "Program Group" radio button in this dialog box, and then click "OK."
  87.  The "Program Group Properites" dialog box now appears.  Type "Sound
  88.  Files" (without the quotes) into the "Description:" text box.  Then
  89.  click "OK."

  91.  In the File Manager, select all of your .WAV files.  The easiest way to
  92.  do this may be to use the "Search..." command from the File menu, and
  93.  then using the "Select..." command.

  95.  Now that the .WAV files are selected, drag the files from the File
  96.  Manager into the new Program Manager group.

  98.  From now on, clicking on the WAVER icons in the "Sound Files" group with
  99.  play the named sounds.  You can give the sounds better descriptions or
  100.  different icons by using the "Properties..." command from the File menu
  101.  in Program Manager.
