  32. 0. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM

  34. ShooltzSaver is a shareware Windows screen saver. It runs under 
  35. Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation 4.0.

  39. 1. INSTALLATION
  40. ------------------------------------------------------
  41. There's no need for special installation of ShooltzSaver. If you
  42. unzipped the contents of the downloaded archive, then you should see
  43. the program icon titled ShooltzSaver or ShooltzSaver.scr
  44. The ShooltzSaver is ready to run. You don't have to copy 
  45. ShooltzSaver.scr file to windows\system directory. To test 
  46. and evaluate the program, just right-click on the icon and 
  47. select appropriate option from the context menu.

  49. - select 'Test' to view how ShooltzSaver works. You can click 
  50. RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON to open control window and adjust animation
  51. options.

  53. - select 'Configure' to open configuration dialog box. Note that 
  54. only small subset of general options is available from this 
  55. dialog. You have total control over ShooltzSaver parameters after 
  56. right-clicking on the main saver screen.

  58. - select 'Install' to make ShooltzSaver your default screen saver.

  62. 2. SHOOLTZSAVER FEATURES
  63. ------------------------------------------------------
  64. ShooltzSaver is a high performance, multithreaded, three-dimensional,
  65. interactive and extensible screen saver for Windows 95 and NT 4.0.
  66.  
  67. - it displays various ray-traced, animated objects (sprites) floating 
  68. and spinning. Smooth animation and high frame rate are achieved by
  69. using multithreading capabilities of the operating system. WinG and 
  70. DirectX are not required.
  71.  
  72. - it is interactive: pressing the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON will open the control
  73. center window. You can change all the animation parameters there and 
  74. instantly see the results. Your settings can be saved for future use as
  75. schemes.

  77. - it can read new sprites (BMP and AVI files) downloaded from my WWW page 
  78. or created by the user (detailed info is available also from my website).
  79. Due to size constraints, the best sprites couldn't be built into ShooltzSaver
  80. and are available on the web. If you like this program, you should try to 
  81. download them from my page.

  88. 3. HISTORY OF CHANGES/WHAT'S NEW
  89. ------------------------------------------------------
  90. VERSION 1.4 (Current) (May 13, 1998)
  91. - custom backgrounds: you can change the default black background by setting
  92. another color and/or using bitmap. The bitmap can be tiled, centered or displayed
  93. in the screen corners. For best results, use dark background bitmaps 
  94. (for example, corporate logo on black). All bitmap features are available on
  95. the 'Background' tab in the Control Center window. Note that custom backgrounds 
  96. require highcolor or truecolor video modes. With lower color depth such as 8-bit
  97. (256 colors), the quality of sprites and background bitmap displayed at the same 
  98. time would be unacceptable. 
  99. One caveat: using background bitmap can slightly decrease overall performance. 
  100. Some extra processor time is required to restore internal buffer after drawing 
  101. a frame when bitmap backgrounds are enabled.

  106. VERSION 1.3 (March 17, 1998)
  107. - randomizing features. You can access them by pressing
  108. 'Randomizer' button in the configuration dialog. For example, ShooltzSaver 
  109. can now switch schemes at runtime automatically after enabling 
  110. "Switch schemes" option. Also, it can create entirely new orbits for 
  111. schemes selected randomly ('Create new orbits' option) and/or modify 
  112. orbits during scheme activity ('Modify orbits'). Of course, the best way 
  113. to explore these options is by using them. Just remember that all randomizer 
  114. options will be disabled when you open the control center window - from this 
  115. point you have total control over ShooltzSaver and nothing will be changed 
  116. automatically.

  132. To register the program, open the configuration dialog and press the 
  133. 'Register' button'. In the registration dialog you can enter your
  134. registration name and ID.
  135.  
  136. Registration costs $19.95. It will disable the quiz for unregistered 
  137. users and "Please register" tiles on main screen. Your registration name 
  138. and ID will be sent to you immediately after receiving the payment.
