  13.         In the simplest sense, SDI2040 is an Invaders-like arcade game
  14.         with a twist or two.  It is available for both the Macintosh II
  15.         and IBM PC compatible line of personal computers, with both 
  16.         versions having digitized sound (PC version requires Soundblaster
  17.         for digitized sound) and full-color graphics (VGA required for
  18.         PC version).  SDI2040 is also much more.  It is our friendly
  19.         attempt to introduce the world (or even a small subset of the
  20.         world) to EAST WING SOFTWARE, a company we hope you will be 
  21.         hearing much more from in the future.  We are very small, just a
  22.         Mac-guy and a PC-guy who have played computer games since they 
  23.         were brand new.  Now we want to use our experience programming
  24.         graphics systems and playing computer games to do something really
  25.         productive, bring you quality computer entertainment at very
  26.         reasonable prices.  SDI2040 is our way of letting you know.

  28.     How do you play it?
  29.  
  30.         SDI2040 is as classic and simple as a computer game gets.  The
  31.         aliens (aka invaders, creatures, etc.) are BAD, BAD.   They are
  32.         invading our beloved planet and our only hope is to use the old,
  33.         forgotten Strategic Defense Initiative hardware left over from
  34.         a 20th Century republic known as the United States of America.
  35.         Your job is to use the SDI cannon to destroy wave upon wave of
  36.         these god-less creatures (A violent goal, yes, but simple.) 
  37.         The invaders have a few surprises for you, so be ready.  All the
  38.         keyboard definitions and other related documentation can be 
  39.         found in the file SDI2040.DOC included with this distribution.

  41.     Benefits of Registration

  43.         At EAST WING SOFTWARE we want to make contact with YOU, and that
  44.         is what registration of SDI2040 is all about.  We would really
  45.         like to hear from you, so we want you to register, whether you
  46.         send the small registration fee or not.  If you don't send
  47.         the fee, we will still appreciate any comments or suggestions
  48.         that you have and we will place you on our mailing list.  If you
  49.         do enclose the modest fee, we will send you a disk with the 
  50.         latest version of SDI2040 along with enhanced digitized sounds.
  51.         You will also be placed on our mailing list and will be notified 
  52.         in advance of future releases and will be eligible to become beta
  53.         testers for future releases.  (Our current project is a 3D space
  54.         combat game with a plot that is both unique and exciting.)  The
  55.         registration form is the file SDIREGIS.DOC and is complete with
  56.         full instructions on the registration process.  Another option
  57.         with SDI2040 is to purchase the full C source code for the
  58.         game.  This is an option that provides additional incentive to 
  59.         anyone who would like to explore the techniques required to 
  60.         produce smooth animation, game logic, sound, joystick support,
  61.         interrupt-driven key handling, menu systems, etc.  The fee for
  62.         this source code is very reasonable and includes on-line docs.
  63.         If you do not own the Creative Labs SoundBlaster Development Kit
  64.         and wish to work with the digitized sounds in SDI2040, you may 
  65.         also order our Sound Function Toolkit.  If you have a SoundBlaster
  66.         sound card, this toolkit provides C functions for playing sounds
  67.         in an arcade game like SDI2040.  This package also include docs.
  68.         Both the SDI2040 source code and the Sound Function Toolkit are
  69.         only available by registering SDI2040 or to registered users.

  88.         This is a simple game that we are providing as shareware, bottom
  89.         line.  Since this game has been a quick project to get in touch
  90.         with potential customers for our future games, there are probably
  91.         bugs.  If there are, we would like to know about them.  We might
  92.         even fix them.  We have purposely left out a lot of features that
  93.         we would normally include in a piece of entertainment software.
  94.         Things like better sound from the PC speaker, expanded memory 
  95.         support, better art-work, music, etc. will all be included in 
  96.         future products, but were beyond the scope of this project.  If 
  97.         you would like to add them yourself, send for the source code.  
  98.         SDI2040 was tested on a Gateway 2000 386-25 and a Mac IIsi.  It 
  99.         runs fine under DOS 4.01 and 5.0 on the PC and System 6.07 and 7.0 
  100.         on the Mac.  We weren't able to test it on any other platforms, so 
  101.         if you have problems with yours, again send for the source code 
  102.         and tweak it for your environment.  With all that in mind, we 
  103.         want you to enjoy SDI2040, but we just can't accept responsibility 
  104.         for any problems it might cause.
