- What is Dots
-
- Dots is a strategy game for two to four players. The object of the
- game is to capture as many squares on the board as possible by either
- cloning a piece or moving and capturing, or to have the most points at
- the end of the game.
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- How do I play
-
- To play Dots, you first must have at least two players, either or both
- of which can be human or computer. The maximum number of players is four.
- You can move any piece of your color to any other unoccupied square, by
- using one of two methods. Method one is Cloning. If you move a piece
- to any adjacent square, the piece will be duplicated, giving you two
- pieces. If you move two squares away, the piece itself is moved, and
- you do not duplicate the piece. To capture another player's piece, simply
- move one of your pieces to one of the eight squares surrounding the other
- player's piece. When you move into an unoccupied square, all pieces in
- the surrounding eight squares will change to your color. If at any time
- during the game, you are wiped off the board, this is known in the DOTS
- world as a "SKUNK", and you will lose all rights guaranteed you by the
- Constitution.
-
- An example of play...
- Now for example, if the board is set up like below, and it is Red's turn,
- He can move the piece from B2 to C2, and capture the two Greens in B3 and
- C3.

- Now it's Blue's turn. If Blue moves the piece from F2 to D2, he will
- capture the three Reds at C1, C2 and C3. This will leave an open spot
- F2, and the board will look like this:

-
- Play continues until all squares are filled in. If any player has no
- possible move, the game will skip his/her turn.
-
- Points are won by, of course, capturing other pieces. The amount of
- points you get for each capture is 25 points for each piece, up to six
- pieces. For seven pieces, you get 200 points (a bonus of 25 points), and
- for eight pieces, you get 300 points (a bonus of 100 points).
-
- If you are still confused about how to play, just put the game in demo
- mode (by selecting all computer players) and watch the computer play.
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- If you think that you have mastered the game, here are a few more things
- to try...
-
- Play to win by point totals, not by number of pieces.
- Play 4 player, one human against 3 computers.
- Use the edit board function to create your own boards with
- less scoring possibilities.
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- What else are they going to do to this game?
-
- Some thoughts for the next release...
-
- Play by modem...
- User selectable board sizes (5x5 all the way to 10x10)
- User selectable computer players.
- Computer players that are as good as the TV characters (I mean really,
- do you think Kelly Bundy can play as well as Commander Data?)
- A DOTS BBS Door.
-
- But, only if (place nag-screen here)...
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- DOTS CONTEST DOTS CONTEST !!!!
- Be it known that TumbleWeed Software is instigating a DOTS CONTEST.
-
- All registered users of DOTS Strategy game will be automatically
- entered into the DOTS Hall of Fame contest. This means that every three

- that sends in the highest score will win a box of 5.25 or 3.5 high density
- disks. All you have to do is send us a copy of your SCORES.DOT file, and
- the highest scorer will win a box of disks. In the case of a tie, the
- winner will be chosen by random drawing. All registered users will be
- notified by mail if at all possible of the results of the contest.
- Only one winner per houshold during the duration of the contest.
