  1.  NOVELL ANNOUNCES BUNDLE OF NETWARE LITE v1.1 WITH DR DOS  6.0 FOR $79
  2.  Latest Lite Offers Enhanced Windows Support and Faster Performance

  4. PROVO, Utah -- July 24, 1992 -- Novell today announced as part of its new
  5. NetWare Desktop System strategy a bundle of the latest version of NetWare
  6. Lite, called NetWare Lite v1.1, and DR DOS 6.0. This new product, which
  7. regularly has a suggested list price of $129 per workstation and for a
  8. limited time has a suggested list price of $79, offers customers a
  9. complete, easy to install and inexpensive desktop networking solution. 
  10. NetWare Lite v1.1/DR DOS 6.0 is a peer-to-peer solution that can run as a
  11. NetWare client and can be fully integrated with a NetWare network and its
  12. services.

  14. NetWare Lite v1.1, Novell's peer-to-peer networking solution, features
  15. enhanced support for Windows v3.0 and v3.1, faster performance through
  16. disk caching and better network management functions.   DR DOS 6.0 is a
  17. powerful operating system that offers full DOS and Windows compatibility,
  18. superior memory management and disk storage, disk caching and
  19. comprehensive security features.  In addition to the bundled version,
  20. NetWare Lite and DR DOS will continue to be available separately.

  22. Like the recently announced DR DOS LANPacks, the NetWare Lite v1.1/DR DOS
  23. 6.0 bundle is a first step in the implementation of Novell's NetWare
  24. Desktop System strategy, with a goal of helping users leverage their
  25. desktop investments and increase their productivity by connecting them
  26. seamlessly into the networking environment across all platforms.

  28. "The NetWare Lite v1.1/DR DOS 6.0 bundle is designed to make networking
  29. solutions easier for users by providing them with everything a small
  30. business or workgroup needs to share and manage information," said John
  31. Edwards, executive vice president of Novell's Desktop Systems Group.  "Our
  32. goal is to empower users to do what they do best  and let the network take
  33. care of the rest.  By freeing users from the networking details, lowering
  34. the cost per node of network administration and making it easier for
  35. developers to write networked applications, we expect to accelerate the
  36. growth of network computing and increase user productivity."

  38. NetWare Lite v1.1
  39.  
  40. The NetWare Lite v1.1 is an inexpensive and easy to install simple
  41. networking solution that allows shared desktop resources to become a part
  42. of the network.  NetWare Lite v1.1 brings major enhancements to Novell's
  43. peer-to-peer networking solution including increased reliability,
  44. functionality and performance.

  46. The new features of NetWare Lite v1.1 include:

  48.  o   Support for Windows -- Supports Microsoft Windows v3.0 and v3.1 on
  49.      servers and client workstations in any mode including Enhanced 386,
  50.      allowing users to run NetWare Lite and Windows concurrently
  51.  
  52.  o   NL Cache -- A new full disk-caching software that increases
  53.      performance by up to 300% in benchmark testing
  54.  
  55.  o   Configuration Flexibility -- The ability to load and unload NetWare
  56.      Lite from memory without the need to reboot the system, adding to the
  57.      flexibility of administering NetWare Lite networks
  58.  
  59.  o   Additional Memory Availability -- NetWare Lite v1.1 is now smaller
  60.      and all components can be loaded into upper memory, making more
  61.      conventional memory available for applications
  62.  
  63.  o   User Profile Save and Restore --Allows users to retain all
  64.      environment parameters established during initial setup, including
  65.      mapped drives, captured ports and DOS variables, so that network
  66.      configuration is automatic; User Profile Save and Restore saves time
  67.      and alleviates repetitive tasks
  68.  
  69.  o   Enhanced Print Services -- Print job and queue status are dynamically
  70.      updated and displayed on screen; client workstations can be notified
  71.      when print jobs are complete -- both features allow users to monitor
  72.      print services and increase productivity

  74.  o   Consistency with NetWare v2.x and v3.x Commands -- Including WHOAMI,
  75.      USERLIST, SLIST , AUDIT,  and RECEIVE; means users need only learn
  76.      one set of commands for both NetWare Lite and NetWare.

  78. In commenting on this latest release of NetWare Lite Edwards added,
  79. "NetWare Lite is a strategic product for the Desktop Systems Group and
  80. will continue to be offered as a standalone product as well as a part of
  81. this bundle.  Users can expect to see continuing enhancements for Lite
  82. including the addition of a graphical user interface."

  84. Pricing and Availability

  86. NetWare Lite v1.1 and DR DOS 6.0 are available either together or
  87. separately through Novell's sales channels.  They may be purchased
  88. separately for the suggested list price of $99 (U.S.) each. NetWare Lite
  89. v1.1 and DR DOS 6.0 are offered together for the regular suggested list
  90. price of $129 and for a limited time at the suggested list price of $79
  91. (U.S).  All versions of NetWare Lite and DR DOS, including the bundle, are
  92. available in English, Spanish, Italian, French, German.and Japanese.

  95. local Novell reseller.

  97. Current users of NetWare Lite v1.0 can receive a free NetWare Lite v1.1
  98. upgrade kit either directly from Novell (for registered users) or through
  99. NetWire and NetWare Express, Novell's online services.  In addition,
  100. NetWare Lite v1.1 includes an upgrade option for NetWare Lite v1.0
  101. networks.  Novell is also offering free technical support for thirty days
  102. to NetWare Lite v1.1 customers through 1-800-NetWare.
