There are two products you may need in addition to what you have now to
setup an internal or external Async Remote Router.
NetWare Async Remote Router software 905-301974-001 $395/network
WNIM+ hardware 905-302029-001 $895/board
YOU HAVE TWO DECISIONS TO MAKE:
1. WNIM+ hardware vs. a COM port.
The WNIM+ is a 4-port "smart" card (it has an on-board processor).
Compared to the COM port that (probably) came with the server the WNIM+
will off-load the main CPU, leaving more time for file service. The COM
port can support speeds up to only 2400 bps. The WNIM+ can support up to
19.2kbps on all 4 lines. The WNIM+ also offers more ports.
2. Internal (in a file server) router vs. External (in a workstation)
router.
Here you're trading off performance for the need to have another machine.
Except for ELS II, a WNIM+ is strongly recommended for an internal Router
(maximum of 1 WNIM+). An external router can support up to 2 WNIM+ boards
and a COM port.
The WNIM+ drivers are in the Async Remote Router package mentioned at top.
The COM drivers were shipped with most versions of Netware but not with
version 3.11. However, as of this date the latest version is available
from NetWire Library 9 as PTF255.ZIP.
The software will not work as an internal router with NetWare 3x or 2.0a
but will work as an external router.
I strongly recomend that you also read ARORUL.TXT (Rules of Thumb for
Asynch Router) in Library 9.
