  16. This file contains VREPAIR.NLM v2.18 for NetWare v3.1x.  The file checks
  17. for collisions on the network in such a way that speed is significantly
  18. increased.  This version will allow you to purge deleted files, repairs
  19. more errors and fixes a problem with checking extended attributes.

  40. This README file of VRP31X.EXE accompanies VREPAIR.NLM v2.18 for NetWare
  41. V3.11 or v3.10.

  43. *****Note that this version of VREPAIR will work with NetWare v3.10 if
  44. VRSHIM.NLM is used.  If you are running VREPAIR.NLM under Netware v3.11, do
  45. not use VRSHIM.NLM.

  51. Problems Addressed:
  52. This version of VREPAIR checks for collisions in such a way that speed is
  53. significantly increased. Also, a problem has been fixed in the read ahead
  54. code that could cause a wrong value to be passed to the comparison
  55. algorithm if the read ahead had not completed one request before a second
  56. request is passed in.

  58. This version of VREPAIR WILL ALLOW YOU TO PURGE DELETED FILES FROM THE
  59. DRIVE.  The default option under this new version is to retain all deleted
  60. files.  However, if you wish to purge the deleted files from the disk,
  61. choose "SET VREPAIR OPTIONS" from the VREPAIR main menu.  You will then be
  62. shown the default options at the top of the screen of which one will be
  63. "Retain Deleted Files".  To change this default, simply choose Option 4,
  64. "Purge All Deleted Files".

  66. WARNING!!!!!  Be aware that after VREPAIR is run with this option all
  67. "SALVAGEABLE" files will be gone.

  69. This version of VREPAIR enhances the functionality to support correction of
  70. some errors that in the past, vrepair reported as unrepairable.  These are
  71. many of the directory FAT errors.  This version of VREPAIR also fixes a
  72. problem checking extended attributes.

  75. To INSTALL this version of VREPAIR.NLM:
  76.  
  77. 1) Bring up the file server without attempting to mount the bad volume.
  78.  
  79. 2) Using the diskette that has this version of VREPAIR on it type, at the
  80. console prompt, LOAD A:VREPAIR.

  82. NOTE: IF YOU ARE USING THIS VERSION OF VREPAIR ON A NETWARE 386 V3.10
  83. SERVER, YOU MUST LOAD VRSHIM.NLM BEFORE LOADING VREPAIR.NLM.

  86. You can load VREPAIR from the network drive or a C partition, however, it
  87. is recommended that this VREPAIR be loaded from the A drive so as not to
  88. confuse it with the standard VREPAIR already loaded on the system.

  90. ****Note: The problems you have encountered that required the use of
  91. VREPAIR may have been caused by hard drive and/or disk controller problems
  92. and the necessary steps should be taken to trouble shoot the system.
