  9. ABSTRACT:
  10.  
  11. UXP197.EXE is a patch for UNIX Print Services NetWare 4 Edition
  12. (only), also known as UNIX Print Services 2.1.  It contains fixes
  13. and enhancements.  UXP197 is strongly recommended for most UNIX
  14. Print Services NetWare 4 Edition sites.  New features include
  15. support for DNS Subnetting and FTP Banner.

  34. SYMPTOM:
  35.  
  36. The audit log in UNICON is presented in an editable format and
  37. should be read-only. 
  38.  
  39.  UNICON cannot administer WKS records, although UNICON --> DNS
  40. Administration shows this option.
  41.  
  42.  UNICON login should support  NDS names with relative path. 
  43.  
  44.  When modifying very large hostgroup, UNICON can abend with Page
  45. Fault Processor Exception,  Running Process: hostgadm.
  46.  
  47.  UNICON --> FTP Administration  abend when bringing up list of
  48. FTP users.  Can only happen when many FTP clients logging in and
  49. out rapidly.
  50.  
  51.  UNICON DNS Replicate domain list allows invalid entries in
  52. addr.arpa domain.
  53.  
  54.  UNICON-->FTP Admin--->FTP Current session--->  Statistics shows
  55. that number of files transferred counts to 99 and then increments
  56. to 10 instead of 100.
  57.  
  58.  UNICON may abend during Printer Configuration if certain NDS
  59. objects are removed.
  60.  
  61.  DNS may not respond to ns query from a replicated domain because
  62. the NDS Replica database is not checked for duplicate domain name
  63. entries for soa & ns records.
  64.  
  65.  Stack Overflow abend when using certain UNICON functions if
  66. using TCPIP.NLM version previous to 3.00e.
  67.  
  68.  LPR client "lprm -Pprinter - command" can cause abend.
  69.  
  70.  PLPD may occasionally abend in WaitOnSemaphore during a UNISTART
  71. if a remote bindery queue has been exported.
  72.  
  73.  LPR Print Server abend when printing to a queue with no defined
  74. queue users.
  75.  
  76.  NetWare PCNFSD support needed for print jobs from FTP Software
  77. ONNET 1.2. 
  78.  
  79.  NetWare PCNFSD does not delete the local spool job after
  80. submitting the job to PLPD.
  81.  
  82.  When configuring exported NetWare queues for UNIX-to-NetWare
  83. printing, the available host list is not updated correctly.
  84.  
  85.  FTP Server transfers files in 2k blocks.  It should be tunable
  86. based on topologies such as FDDI which support larger block
  87. sizes.

  89.  FTP Server occasional abend under heavy load.

  91.  FTP Server cannot find trustee home directory for NDS user.

  93.  FTP user can login as an ordinary user by specifying username
  94. anonymous when logging in from a different OU than the product

  98. (unsupported) frame type.

  101. SOLUTION: 
  102.  
  103. For each SYMPTOM, install UXP197.EXE self-extracting file as
  104. described in Installation.
  105.  
  106.  NOTE:  UXP197 only replaces some of the UNIX Print Services 2.1
  107. files.  It cannot run on its own, and it cannot be used to update
  108. from NetWare Flex/IP to UNIX Print Services NetWare 4 Edition.
  109.  
  110.  NOTE: This patch may be installed on any 4.1 server, even if
  111. UNIX Print Services 2.1 is not present.  However, the patch
  112. cannot function without the full product being installed.  The
  113. patch can be installed either before or after the installation of
  114. UNIX Print Services 2.1 itself.  If the patch is installed after
  115. 2.1, DNS sub-zone options are not displayed during patch
  116. installation.

  120.  New Features
  121.  
  122. -----------------------------------------------------------------

  124.  FTP Banner
  125.  
  126.  The FTP server (FTPSERV.NLM) will display a welcome banner when
  127. FTP users login.  The banner file is SYS:ETC/BANNER.FTP on the
  128. server running FTPSERV.  It will only be displayed after a
  129. successful login.   The FTP server also displays the contents of
  130. the file message.txt (if present) when the user changes directory
  131. (cd) into that directory.
  132.  
  133.  To suppress this feature, the FTP user can enter a dash ("-") as
  134. the first character of the password.
  135.

  139.  DNS Subnetting
  140.  
  141.  This patch contains an enhanced DNS implementation that supports
  142. IP subnetting. 
  143.  
  144.  NOTE:  This feature is optional.   If you do not need to have
  145. your NetWare DNS server to master a subnetted IP domain, answer
  146. NO when prompted.  More information on DNS Subnetting will be
  147. found in the appropriate section of the Novell White Paper
  148. entitled "NFS Services 2.1: New Features."
  149.  
  150.  NOTE:  After upgrading from an earlier version of DNS which
  151. comes with NFS Services 2.1,  UNIX Print Services 2.1, 
  152. NetWare/IP 1.2, or NFS Gateway 1.2, there may be more than one
  153. primary entry for a domain under in-addr.arpa in the
  154. SYS:ETC/NAMED.CFG file.  The duplicate entries will be seen in
  155. UNICON when attempting to Delegate Subzone Authority.
  156.

  162.  It is not acceptable to have two primary domain servers.   To
  163. avoid this, it is recommended  to install this patch FIRST, and
  164. then install the NFS Services 2.1 NetWare 4 Edition.  To remedy
  165. this, edit the NAMED.CFG file with any text editor.
  166.  
  167.  NOTE:  Initialization of the DNS database happens during
  168. installation, and whenever the Initialize DNS Master Database is
  169. used from UNICON.  To re-initialize DNS services after
  170. installation,  LOAD UNICON /I.
  171.

  175.  Configuration of DNS master
  176.  
  177.  To configure DNS server to master a subnetted IP domain, use
  178. UNICON:
  179.  
  180.  1.  Manage Services -->
  181.  2.     DNS --->
  182.  3.        Inititalize DNS Master Database ---> YES
  183.  4.            DNS service for specific subnetworks --> YES
  184.  NOTE: check to see that the domain is correct before continuing.
  185.  5.           Select desired subnetworks by inserting or deleting
  186. IP subnets to the list.
  187.  6.              Inititalize DNS database --> YES
  188.  7.                 Remove Local Nameservers Old Database --->YES
  189.  
  190.  Now the DNS master will begin mastering the specified IP
  191. subnets.  No other domains in the in-addr.arpa. domain will be
  192. managed other than those subnets.

  197.  Implementation Details
  198.  
  199.  The following files are used by DNS.   Most are created or
  200. refreshed during database initialization.
  201.  
  202.  sys:etc/named.cfg contains information on the type of server
  203. (Primary/Secondary/Cache), zone authority and source for initial
  204. data.
  205.  
  206.  sys:etc/dns/root.db contains information of authoritative name
  207. servers for the root domain and frequently accessed domains that
  208. are not related to the master zone. The DNS server cache is
  209. primed with name server addresses during startup.
  210.  
  211.  sys:etc/dns/hosts.db contains information about hosts in the
  212. zone for which the name server is the authority.  The location of
  213. this file is specified in the boot file (named.cfg).
  214.  
  215.  sys:etc/dns/hostsrev.db specifies the in-addr.arpa domain which
  216. is a special domain that allows address to host name mapping.  It
  217. allows for natural grouping of hosts in a network.  This file is
  218. created automatically in the background when the DNS server is
  219. configured at the UNIX Print Services server.  If the new subnet
  220. partition scheme is selected to master IP subnets, hostsrev.db
  221. will be replaced by subhosts.db.  Otherwise hostsrev.db will be
  222. kept and used.

  224.  Note that the data format is like a DNS domain name, with the IP
  225. address appended with "in-addr.arpa." domain name.    For each
  226. host address, there will be an in-addr.arpa entry.  An example
  227. record in hostrev.db would be "1.4.57.130.in-addr.arpa".
  228.  
  229.  sys:etc/dns/zonexx.db database contains data about hosts in the
  230. domain "xx" for which the name server is a replica. "xx" is the
  231. number assigned by DNSADMIN.NLM.
  232.  
  233.  sys:etc/dns/subhosts.db is a new database for the in-addr.arpa
  234. domain.  It contains data about hosts in IP subnets in the form
  235. of in-addr.arpa domains.  If subnetting is not configured, the
  236. hostsrev.db database is retained for the in-addr.arpa domain.
  237.  
  238.  sys:etc/resolv.cfg specifies the DNS domain and lists the IP
  239. addresses for the DNS server to use in resolving queries from 
  240. the DNS Client.

  346. Installation Instructions:
  347.  
  348. 1. Backup your current SYS:SYSTEM and SYS:ETC subdirectories as a
  349. precaution.
  350.  
  351.  2. At a workstation attached to the NetWare 4.1 server, create a
  352. new directory named UXP197 on any NetWare volume.  Any other name
  353. may optionally be used instead of UXP197.
  354.  
  355.     MD UXP197

  357.  3. Copy UXP197.EXE into the new directory.
  358.  
  359.     COPY  UXP197.EXE  UXP197
  360.  
  361.  4. From the new directory, type UXP197 <enter> to extract the
  362. files.
  363.  
  364.     CD  UXP197
  365.     UXP197
  366.  
  367.  5. From the server console, run UNISTOP.NCF as a general
  368. precaution.
  369.  
  370.     UNISTOP
  371.  
  372.  6. From the server console, activate the installation program.
  373.  
  374.     LOAD INSTALL
  375.  
  376.  NOTE:  RCONSOLE can also be used to remotely access the server
  377. console.
  378.  
  379.  7. Select PRODUCT OPTIONS.
  380.  
  381.  8. Press <Insert>  to install new product.
  382.  
  383.  9. Press <F3> to install the files in UXP197.  The "SPECIFY
  384. DIRECTORY PATH" dialogue box will appear.
  385.  
  386.  10. Enter the path to the directory where the UXP197 files were
  387. extracted, in the DISK1 subdirectory. 
  388.  
  389.     SYS:/UXP197/DISK1
  390.  
  391.  After the installation program installs the files, the
  392. "Currently Installed Products" menu will  list:
  393.  
  394.       PRTPAT 2.1      NetWare UNIX Print Services Patch 2.1
  395.  
  396.  10. Exit the Installation program or press <ALT-ESC> to return
  397. to the system console prompt.
  398.  
  399.  11.  Restart the services by invoking UNISTART.NCF.
  400.  
  401.     UNISTART.
