  13.   This file contains updated NetWare Print Server NLM (3.76, PTF
  14. 950523), EXE (3.77), and VAP (1.26) files, as well as an updated
  15. RPRINTER (3.75) file.  The NLM is new for PS3X02.EXE.

  33. SYMPTOM:

  35. SYMPTOMS for PSERVER.NLM:
  36.  
  37.  Symptom 1: Large print jobs remain in the queue after they have
  38. printed.  The queue may then become unusable.  The file server
  39. may run out of disk space.  The total size of the print job is
  40. approximately 33 MB or larger (actual print job size x number of
  41. copies specified).

  43.  Symptom 2: PSERVER shows status of "printing" but the RPRINTER
  44. status shows "waiting for job".
  45.  
  46.  Symptom 3: PSERVER incorrectly shows status of "not connected"
  47. for RPRINTER that is running.
  48.  
  49.  SYMPTOM for PSERVER.VAP:
  50.  
  51.  When loading the PSERVER.VAP, the DTR and RTS lines are set high
  52. and maintained high the entire time the VAP is loaded.
  53.  
  54.  SYMPTOM for RPRINTER.EXE:
  55.  
  56.  When RPRINTER.EXE v3.75 is loaded, the form feed (or buffer)
  57. indicator at the attached printer lights.  This is true only for
  58. parallel connected printers.

  61. CAUSE
  62.  
  63. CAUSE for PSERVER.NLM symptom 1:
  64.  
  65.  The size of the fields used to process the print jobs limited
  66. the print job size to 33 MB.
  67.  
  68.  CAUSE for PSERVER.NLM symtom 2:

  70.  PSERVER was not checking for SPX error codes.

  72.  CAUSE for PSERVER.NLM symtom 3:

  74.  Under some conditions, the information about one RPRINTER
  75. connection with problems were being attributed to the wrong
  76. connection.

  78.  CAUSE for PSERVER.VAP symptom:

  80.  Serial port control register set wrong.

  82.  CAUSE for RPRINTER.EXE symptom:

  84.  Whatever character that happens to be in the parallel port
  85. transmit buffer is strobed into the printer's receive buffer
  86. during the initialization of RPRINTER.

  116.  AUTO-LOAD NOTES:
  117.  
  118.  When running this new PSERVER.VAP on a NetWare 2.2 server, the
  119. VAP will prompt you for the Print Server name the first time the
  120. VAP is loaded.  From that point on the PSERVER.VAP will
  121. acknowledge the Print Server Name until the name is cleared.
  122.  
  123.  To CLEAR a Print Server Name, the user will simply type the
  124. following at the console prompt on the NetWare 2.2 file server:

  126.  PSERVER CLEARNAME
  127.  
  128.  This will cause the PSERVER.VAP to prompt the user for a Print
  129. Server Name the next time the PSERVER.VAP is loaded.

  133.  1. Make a backup copy of the PSERVER.VAP file.
  134.  
  135.  2. Copy the new PSERVER.VAP file over the original version.
  136.  
  137.  3. To use the new PSERVER VAP, reboot the file server.

  144.  1. Flag PSERVER.NLM as SRW (Sharable Read Write) in the
  145. SYS:SYSTEM directory.

  147.  2. Rename the existing PSERVER.NLM to PSERVER.OLD for backup
  148. purposes.

  150.  3. Copy the new PSERVER.NLM file to the SYS:SYSTEM directory.

  152.  4. Flag the new PSERVER.NLM file to SRO (Sharable Read Only).

  154.  5. To use the new NLM, load PSERVER at the console using the
  155. following syntax:

  157.     :LOAD PSERVER <PRINT SERVER NAME> [POLL=xx] [DELAY=x]

  164. SYS:PUBLIC directory.
