If you are sure you want to exit the Dial utility, select "Yes" and press <Enter>. Otherwise, press <Esc> or select "No" and press <Enter> to return to the main menu.
Modem
This setting specifies the type of modem connected to the serial port.
Select "None" for direct, leased line connections, or if your port is connected to a multiplexer.
If you are using a Hayes*-compatible modem not on the list, select the model most similar to your modem. If your selection fails to make your modem respond, select "Hayes-compatible".
The modems marked with a superscript n (
) are not tested by Novell, but NetWare Connect provides modem scripts for all the modems on the list.
*Hayes is a registered trademark of Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc.
* If you have an unlisted modem from a vendor on the list,
try selections of older models from that vendor.
* Choose Manual Modem if you are using a modem that is not
among, or compatible with, those listed in the menu.
You will have to configure your modem with switch
settings or modem initialization strings.
To specify a modem type, select the option appropriate to the
modem attached to this port and press <Enter>.
The default modem type is Hayes Smartmodem 2400.

Data Rate
This field specifies in bits per second the data rate this port supports.
If your modem type is "Manual Modem", select a numerical data rate supported by both the server modem and your modem.
If your modem type is set to "None", select "19,200". The setting can be adjusted downward if the remote device cannot handle this speed.
Flow Control
This field specifies the hardware flow control between your port and the modem.
If your modem operates at 9600 bps and above, select the default value of "RTS/CTS".
Ring to Answer On
This field applies to dialback only. It specifies the number of rings to allow before your modem answers a call. To change the default number (1 ring), type the number of rings you want and press <Enter>. You can specify a number between -1 and 255. Specifying -1 indicates unlimited rings.
Dial Type
This field specifies tone (push-button) or pulse (rotary) dial type. Most telephone systems support tone dialing, but some still support pulse dialing only.
If you are not sure whether your telephone supports tone dialing, call your local telephone company and find out. The default value is "Tone".
Leased Line
If you are using a leased telephone line connected
to the modem on this port, select "Yes". Otherwise, press <Enter> to accept the default value "No".
Additional Modem Initialization String
Use this field to customize predefined modem scripts by specifying a supplementary command string.
The default setting for this field is no characters. You
can specify up to 40 characters; the first blank terminates the string. This string is sent after automatic initialization, but before the command to set autoanswer or autodial has been issued.
Number of Redialing Attempts
This field specifies how many times the Dial utility redials a number because the previous dial operations failed to make a connection.
Press <Enter> to accept the default value "0". To change the default, type in a number between 0 and 255 and press <Enter>.
Seconds between Redials
This field specifies how many seconds the Dial utility waits before redialing on a dial operation. Use this field only if you have specified a nonzero value in the Number of Redialing Attempts field.
Press <Enter> to accept the default value of "10" seconds. To change the default setting, type in a
number between 0 and 3000 and press <Enter>.
Seconds to Wait after Dial
This setting specifies in seconds how long the program waits for a connection after dialing a number or after the server dials a number in a dialback operation.
To accept the default value (60 seconds), press <Enter>. To
change the value, type in a value between 0 and 300 and
press <Enter>. You can adjust this time period to the speed of the telephone system and your modem.
Save Configuration
You may accept the changes you have made to the
port configuration by selecting "Yes" and
pressing <Enter>. Or, you may reject the changes by selecting "No" and pressing <Enter>.
Serial Driver Number
Select the serial Open Data-Link Interface(tm) (ODI(tm)) driver number from the list and press <Enter>. This field specifies the order of the serial ODI drivers loaded on your PC.
This field is active only when you load

For example, if you have two configurations for the NetWare(R) Remote Node (NRN) and you want to use the second configuration, make sure you have loaded NRN twice. Then select the second NRN driver in this list.
Pathname for NET.CFG File
This field specifies the pathname for the NET.CFG file. If this file does not exist it is created.
The NET.CFG file contains all configuration parameters for the serial driver.
Configure Driver
Select a driver in the list to modify its configuration in the NET.CFG file.
To add a new driver, select the field "<create new driver>" and press <Enter>.
To delete a configuration, select the driver and press <Del>. Deleting a driver configuration from the list automatically renumbers existing configurations. For example, if you configured more than one driver, when you delete "Serial Driver 1 - NRN", "Serial Driver 2 - NRN" becomes "Serial Driver 1 - NRN".
Serial Port
Select this option to specify the serial port to be used. Select "COM1" or "COM2" if you are using these devices at their standard I/O address and interrupt (IRQ) level. Otherwise, use the "Custom" selection to configure for your I/O address and interrupt level.
I/O Address for Custom Serial Port
This selection defines the I/O address of the serial port. Enter the serial port address and press <Enter>.
Interrupt for Custom Port
Enter the interrupt (IRQ) used for the serial port. The valid range of interrupts is 0 through 7.
Configure Port
Press <Enter> to start configuring a port, or exit the program by pressing <Esc> and selecting "Exit".
Retype NetWare(R) Password
To ensure that the correct password string is recorded, re-enter the password string. If the string you enter here does not match the string entered above, the password is rejected and you are asked to enter a password again.
Exit
Select "Exit" to quit the Dial utility.
Connection Management
This selection allows you to dial a telephone number and connect to a server via a modem connected to your PC.
If you have more than one configuration defined, make sure that you load both serial drivers or the same driver that many times. For example, if you have two configurations for the NetWare(R) Remote Node (NRN) driver, then you must load NRN twice to use both configurations.
Dial Utility
This utility allows you to configure the modem connected to your PC and control the modem to dial up a server.
Retype NetWare(R) Password
To ensure that the correct password string is recorded, the password must be entered correctly twice. The entered strings did not match each other.
Re-enter the desired password after pressing <Esc>.
Telephone Number
Enter the telephone number to dial. Enter no more than 40 characters including the characters entered in the Prefix and Suffix fields.
Prefix
Enter the prefix for the telephone number. The prefix is dialed before the number in the Telephone Number field.
Suffix
Enter the suffix digits, if any, to be dialed after the telephone number.
NetWare(R) Username
Enter the NetWare username to be used for this connection.
Operation
Select the operation to perform, and press <Enter>. All the operations in the list MIGHT NOT apply to the selected driver.
Select this option to dial up a server and establish a
connection to the network.
Hang Up
Select this option to disconnect from the network.
Press PgDwn for more options.
Operation (continue) Server Dialback
Select this option to request the server to dial back to your PC. Verify with your system administrator that you are set up to perform the dialback operation on the
server. If you are using the NetWare(R) Remote Node (NRN) driver, select this option to perform dialback operations.
Dial & Access Select this option if the server you are dialing to has a front-end processor, which might require additional user input before connecting you to the server. Press PgUp to return to the previous screen.
Frame Type
If you are configuring for the NetWare(R) Remote Node (NRN), select the frame type specified for the Remote Node Service (RNS) driver on the server. Or, select the default (Ethernet_802.2) and, if that does not work, contact your system administrator.
Use <F5> to select multiple frame types. Select multiple frame types to support multiple protocols. For example, select Ethernet_II for IP support and an appropriate frame type to support IPX.
Dialback Telephone Number
Enter the telephone number that the server must use to dial back to your modem. The dialback telephone number must be fewer than or equal to 40 characters, including the prefix and suffix.
Software Compression
This parameter allows you to enable or disable software compression. The default is Enabled.
Use this option only to disable compression when you have an Extended Memory Manager (EMM) driver loaded. If you loaded an EMM driver, software compression is enabled automatically.
Current Modem Status
This shows the status of the operation you requested. Press <Esc> to terminate the operation.
NetWare Password
Enter the NetWare(R) password for the username specified, and press <Enter>.
Display Modem Trace
Select this option to display the modem trace file for the last modem operation.
Display Statistics
Select this option to display statistics for the loaded serial drivers. If you have only one driver loaded, pressing <Enter> displays statistics for that driver.
If you have more than one serial driver loaded, you are prompted to select the serial driver that you want the statistics for.
Statistics
The statistics for the loaded driver are displayed. Press <Ins> to update the counters.
Execute the Operation?
Select "Yes" to execute the operation, or press <Enter> to select the default "No" and exit the Connection Management window. You can also press <F10> to execute the operation.
Connection Management Parameters
Select "Yes" to save the parameters specified in the Connection Management panel. If you save the parameters now, the next time you use the Dial utility you can automate the dial process by using the command line options (DIALCON /o=d).
Save Modem Trace
Select "Yes" and specify a path to save the modem trace to a file.
Create NET.CFG File?
Select "Yes" if you want to create a NET.CFG file. If you already have a NET.CFG file and do not want to create another one, select "No" and verify the pathname specified.
