UPGRADING FROM versions 2.00 to 2.00b
------------------
This file describes how to upgrade NetWare Global MHS from
version 2.00 to 2.00b. If you have a Beta release of NGM 2.00b,
you will need to convert your installation back to your original
2.00 version for this patch upgrade to complete successfully.
Follow the instructions noted below for successfully restoring your
original system configuration.
This upgrade provides the following fixes and enhancements:
1) The following changes have been made in NGM 2.00b.
a. New on-the-wire protocol to support Remote MHS 2.0.
b. Improved support for Suspend/Resume connectivity.
c. More efficient message handling.
d. Performance improvements.
e. Improved file sharing.
f. Multi-threaded Inet delivery.
g. Improved error-reporting for non-delivery messages.
h. Improved error recovery.
i. Eliminate use of -SMF71- as local part of downgraded
addresses.
j. Now enforce Expiration-date header.
k. New keyword, 'Redirect-to' in FORWARD.SMF file.
l. New MTA-IN directory for bursting incoming queues.
m. Improved SMTP support for alternate routing based on multiple
entries in DNS.
n. Admin support for renaming users and dlists.
o. Admin can now change the workgroup hub.
p. Diradm support for renaming users and dlists.
q. Diradm support for managing users on passive servers.
r. Diradm support for managing applications.
s. Diradm 'Replace' function now creates user if the user does
not exist.
t. More reliable and faster generation of the extract file.
u. Asynchronous connections will not disconnect if message is
rejected.
v. Directory Synchronization across MHS 1.5 hop.
w. NGM can now be installed on NetFrame servers.
x. BASTONGM.NLM utility to upgrade from Basic MHS to NGM.
NOTE: This patch is designed to upgrade NetWare Global MHS
version 2.00 to NetWare Global MHS version 2.00b. If you
have a version earlier than 2.00, this upgrade procedure
will not work. To determine your current NGM version,
type 'MODULES' at the server console prompt and verify
that the version number for 'NGMADMIN.NLM' is 2.00. If
you have any other version, contact your local Novell
representative to receive instructions on how to acquire
the appropriate upgrade for your system. This patch process
will not change the version number of NetWare Global MHS
as it is reported from within NetWare's INSTALL.NLM.
INSTALL will continue to display the original NGM version
number.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO FIRST?
------------------
Use this upgrade to modify an existing NetWare Global MHS
installation. Before you install this upgrade, verify that NetWare
Global MHS version 2.00 is installed on your server. For information
on installing 2.00, refer to your "Installing NetWare Global MHS"
manual, part number 100-001200-001.
WHICH FILES ARE UPGRADED?
------------------
The following files will be modified in the NGM 2.00b upgrade procedure.
1. NGM\README.TXT
2. NGM\NGMINS.DAT
3. NGM\BIN\NGM.NLM
4. NGM\BIN\NGMADMIN.HLP
5. NGM\BIN\NGMADMIN.NLM
6. NGM\BIN\NGMAMP.NLM
7. NGM\BIN\NGMBIMPT.NLM
8. NGM\BIN\NGMBIND.NLM

10. NGM\BIN\NGMDSYNC.NLM
11. NGM\BIN\NGMEXTRC.NLM
12. NGM\BIN\NGMINS.HLP
13. NGM\BIN\NGMNIMPT.NLM
14. NGM\BIN\NGMSMF.NLM
15. NGM\BIN\NGMTOOLS.NLM
16. NGM\BIN\NGMUPGDE.NLM
The following files will be added in the NGM 2.00b upgrade procedure.
1. NGM\BIN\BASTONGM.NLM
2. NGM\ASYNC\MODEMDEF\EVER24E.MDF
3. NGM\ASYNC\MODEMDEF\GVC96.MDF
4. NGM\ASYNC\MODEMDEF\MHZ24E.MDF
5. NGM\ASYNC\MODEMDEF\ZOOM96.MDF
6. NGM\ASYNC\MODEMDEF\USR24E.MDF
The patch process will also include a number of files which have changed
but do not exist in the NGM directory structure. The patch process will
place these files in the NGM\PATCH directory, but you will need to copy
them into the appropriate directories in order for the upgrade procedure
to be complete.
Installed in... Copy to...
1. NGM\PATCH\GWDEMON.EXE ---> 1. MHS\EXE\GWDEMON.EXE
2. NGM\PATCH\DIRADM.EXE ---> 2. MHS\EXE\DIRADM.EXE
3. NGM\PATCH\MHS.MSG ---> 3. MHS\EXE\MHS.MSG
4. NGM\PATCH\AIO.NLM ---> 4. SYSTEM\AIO.NLM
(Please backup your original SYSTEM\AIO.NLM)
The following files are changes and additions to your original 'NetWare
AIO Drivers' diskette. The patch process will place these files in the
NGM\PATCH\AIODISK directory for your reference.
1. NGM\PATCH\AIODISK\AIODISK.DOC
2. NGM\PATCH\AIODISK\NEWPORT\AIOACI.DOC
3. NGM\PATCH\AIODISK\NEWPORT\AIOACI.NLM
4. NGM\PATCH\AIODISK\GATEWAY\AIOWNIM.NLM
5. NGM\PATCH\AIODISK\COMPUTON\IP2-NOVL.TXT
6. NGM\PATCH\AIODISK\COMPUTON\AIOCTONE.NLM
NOTE: This upgrade will change your serial number from a DECIMAL format to
a HEXADECIMAL format. This will not effect your installation or
licensed user count in any way.
UPGRADING YOUR SERVER
------------------
1. Login to your NGM server as supervisor.
2. Verify that your server has at least 6.0 MB of free hard disk space.
This is the recommended minimum required to perform this upgrade.
3. The contents of the NetWare Global MHS 2.00b patch is as follows:
1. README.UPG
2. PATCH.EXE
3. PATCHNGM.BAT
4. NGM20B.RTP
5. FSERIAL.EXE
4. Copy the files 'PATCH.EXE', 'PATCHNGM.BAT', 'NGM20B.RTP', and
'FSERIAL.EXE' to the root NGM directory. The default NetWare
Global MHS directory is <Server\Volume:\NGM\>.
Sample: COPY PATCH.EXE <drive>:\NGM\PATCH.EXE
COPY PATCHNGM.BAT <drive>:\NGM\PATCHNGM.BAT
COPY NGM20B.RTP <drive>:\NGM\NGM20B.RTP
COPY FSERIAL.EXE <drive>:\NGM\FSERIAL.EXE
If you installed NetWare Global MHS in some other directory,
be sure to copy the upgrade files to that directory.
For example, if NetWare Global MHS is installed in the
directory <Server\Volume:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\>, enter the following:
Sample: COPY PATCH.EXE <drive>:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\PATCH.EXE
COPY PATCHNGM.BAT <drive>:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\PATCHNGM.BAT
COPY NGM20B.RTP <drive>:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\NGM20B.RTP
COPY FSERIAL.EXE <drive>:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\FSERIAL.EXE
The patch program searches down through all subdirectories to find
the appropriate files to upgrade. Therefore, it is very important
to start the upgrade procedure from the correct directory.
5. Unload NGM at the server console and make a backup copy of your
NetWare Global MHS Directory structure.
IMPORTANT: Do not save backup files under the same directory
structure in which you installed NetWare Global
MHS. The upgrade procedure will update the first
file within the directory structure. If this
first file happens to be a backup file, then the
correct system file may not be upgraded.
6. Change to the root NGM directory (where you copied the
upgrade files). Enter:
PATCHNGM
The patch program upgrades all appropriate files. The patch
program also retains a log of the results in a file called
'RESULTS.TXT'. To verify your upgrade installation, view the
contents of 'RESULTS.TXT' after the upgrade is complete.
7. The upgrade procedure will create a subdirectory called 'PATCH'
under the root NGM directory. This directory will contain files
which have changed or have been added to this version of NGM but
do not reside within the NGM directory structure. Information has
been provided above in the section "WHICH FILES ARE UPGRADED"
that details what needs to be done with these files for the patch
process to be complete.
8. During the patch process a BACKUP directory is created under
the directory from which you ran 'PATCHNGM'. The BACKUP
directory contains all files that were changed and a file
called 'UNPATCH.BAK'. After the patch process has completed
do NOT delete the BACKUP directory until you are satisfied
that the upgrade procedure was successful. If you want to
undo your upgrade and return your installation to its previous
state, perform the following procedure.
o To restore your system, change to the BACKUP directory,
copy 'UNPATCH.BAK' to 'UNPATCH.BAT', and type "UNPATCH".
This file will delete all new files in the appropriate
directories and replace them with the files which originally
existed.
o Verify the original files have been correctly re-installed.
o In order to re-run the patch process, you MUST delete the
BACKUP directory first. Otherwise, the patch procedure will
be unable to create an accurate BACKUP of the changes being
made during the subsequent upgrade.
* NOTE: The following Inet configuration parameters have been
added to the NGM 2.00b release.
[NGMSMF]
ngmimp-inbound-allowed=TRUE/FALSE
ngmimp-outbound-allowed=TRUE/FALSE
If these settings do not exist, the default recognized by NGM
is TRUE. In order to turn off all INET inbound/outbound message
pickup and delivery, you will be required to add the above
Configuration File Parameters to the 'NGM.CFG' configuration
file, in SYS:\SYSTEM.
