  8.                 UPGRADING FROM versions 2.00 to 2.00b
  9.                         ------------------
  10.  
  11. This file describes how to upgrade NetWare Global MHS from 
  12. version 2.00 to 2.00b.    If you have a Beta release of NGM 2.00b,
  13. you will need to convert your installation back to your original
  14. 2.00 version for this patch upgrade to complete successfully.
  15. Follow the instructions noted below for successfully restoring your
  16. original system configuration.

  18. This upgrade provides the following fixes and enhancements:
  19.  
  20. 1) The following changes have been made in NGM 2.00b.
  21.  
  22.    a.  New on-the-wire protocol to support Remote MHS 2.0.
  23.    b.  Improved support for Suspend/Resume connectivity.
  24.    c.  More efficient message handling.
  25.    d.  Performance improvements.
  26.    e.  Improved file sharing.
  27.    f.  Multi-threaded Inet delivery.
  28.    g.  Improved error-reporting for non-delivery messages.
  29.    h.  Improved error recovery.
  30.    i.  Eliminate use of -SMF71- as local part of downgraded 
  31.        addresses.
  32.    j.  Now enforce Expiration-date header.
  33.    k.  New keyword, 'Redirect-to' in FORWARD.SMF file.
  34.    l.  New MTA-IN directory for bursting incoming queues.
  35.    m.  Improved SMTP support for alternate routing based on multiple
  36.        entries in DNS.
  37.    n.  Admin support for renaming users and dlists.
  38.    o.  Admin can now change the workgroup hub.
  39.    p.  Diradm support for renaming users and dlists.
  40.    q.  Diradm support for managing users on passive servers.
  41.    r.  Diradm support for managing applications.
  42.    s.  Diradm 'Replace' function now creates user if the user does
  43.        not exist.
  44.    t.  More reliable and faster generation of the extract file.
  45.    u.  Asynchronous connections will not disconnect if message is
  46.        rejected.
  47.    v.  Directory Synchronization across MHS 1.5 hop.
  48.    w.  NGM can now be installed on NetFrame servers.
  49.    x.  BASTONGM.NLM utility to upgrade from Basic MHS to NGM.

  52.     NOTE:  This patch is designed to upgrade NetWare Global MHS
  53.            version 2.00 to NetWare Global MHS version 2.00b. If you
  54.            have a version earlier than 2.00, this upgrade procedure
  55.            will not work.  To determine your current NGM version,
  56.            type 'MODULES' at the server console prompt and verify
  57.            that the version number for 'NGMADMIN.NLM' is 2.00.  If
  58.            you have any other version, contact your local Novell
  59.            representative to receive instructions on how to acquire
  60.            the appropriate upgrade for your system. This patch process
  61.            will not change the version number of NetWare Global MHS
  62.            as it is reported from within NetWare's INSTALL.NLM.
  63.            INSTALL will continue to display the original NGM version
  64.            number.

  67.                    WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO FIRST?
  68.                         ------------------
  69.  
  70. Use this upgrade to modify an existing NetWare Global MHS 
  71. installation.  Before you install this upgrade, verify that NetWare
  72. Global MHS version 2.00 is installed on your server. For information 
  73. on installing 2.00, refer to your "Installing NetWare Global MHS"
  74. manual, part number 100-001200-001.

  111. The patch process will also include a number of files which have changed
  112. but do not exist in the NGM directory structure. The patch process will
  113. place these files in the NGM\PATCH directory, but you will need to copy
  114. them into the appropriate directories in order for the upgrade procedure
  115. to be complete.

  138. NOTE: This upgrade will change your serial number from a DECIMAL format to
  139.       a HEXADECIMAL format. This will not effect your installation or 
  140.       licensed user count in any way. 
  141.

  143.                       UPGRADING YOUR SERVER
  144.                         ------------------
  145. 1.  Login to your NGM server as supervisor.
  146.  
  147. 2.  Verify that your server has at least 6.0 MB of free hard disk space.
  148.     This is the recommended minimum required to perform this upgrade.
  149.  
  150. 3.  The contents of the NetWare Global MHS 2.00b patch is as follows:
  151.  
  152.         1.  README.UPG
  153.         2.  PATCH.EXE
  154.         3.  PATCHNGM.BAT
  155.         4.  NGM20B.RTP
  156.     5.  FSERIAL.EXE 
  157.     
  158. 4.  Copy the files 'PATCH.EXE', 'PATCHNGM.BAT', 'NGM20B.RTP', and
  159.     'FSERIAL.EXE' to the root NGM directory.  The default NetWare
  160.     Global MHS directory is <Server\Volume:\NGM\>. 
  161.  
  162.         Sample:  COPY PATCH.EXE       <drive>:\NGM\PATCH.EXE
  163.                  COPY PATCHNGM.BAT    <drive>:\NGM\PATCHNGM.BAT

  167.     If you installed NetWare Global MHS in some other directory,
  168.     be sure to copy the upgrade files to that directory.
  169.     For example, if NetWare Global MHS is installed in the
  170.     directory <Server\Volume:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\>, enter the following:
  171.  
  172.         Sample:  COPY PATCH.EXE     <drive>:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\PATCH.EXE
  173.                  COPY PATCHNGM.BAT  <drive>:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\PATCHNGM.BAT
  174.                  COPY NGM20B.RTP    <drive>:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\NGM20B.RTP
  175.                  COPY FSERIAL.EXE   <drive>:\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\FSERIAL.EXE

  177.     The patch program searches down through all subdirectories to find
  178.     the appropriate files to upgrade.  Therefore, it is very important
  179.     to start the upgrade procedure from the correct directory.
  180.  
  181. 5.  Unload NGM at the server console and make a backup copy of your
  182.     NetWare Global MHS Directory structure.
  183.  
  184.     IMPORTANT:  Do not save backup files under the same directory 
  185.                 structure in which you installed NetWare Global 
  186.                 MHS.  The upgrade procedure will update the first 
  187.                 file within the directory structure.  If this 
  188.                 first file happens to be a backup file, then the 
  189.                 correct system file may not be upgraded.
  190.  
  191. 6.  Change to the root NGM directory (where you copied the 
  192.     upgrade files).  Enter:
  193.  
  194.         PATCHNGM
  195.  
  196.     The patch program upgrades all appropriate files.  The patch 
  197.     program also retains a log of the results in a file called
  198.     'RESULTS.TXT'.  To verify your upgrade installation, view the
  199.     contents of 'RESULTS.TXT' after the upgrade is complete.
  200.  
  201. 7.  The upgrade procedure will create a subdirectory called 'PATCH'
  202.     under the root NGM directory. This directory will contain files
  203.     which have changed or have been added to this version of NGM but
  204.     do not reside within the NGM directory structure. Information has
  205.     been provided above in the section "WHICH FILES ARE UPGRADED"
  206.     that details what needs to be done with these files for the patch
  207.     process to be complete.
  208.  
  209. 8.  During the patch process a BACKUP directory is created under
  210.     the directory from which you ran 'PATCHNGM'.  The BACKUP
  211.     directory contains all files that were changed and a file
  212.     called 'UNPATCH.BAK'.  After the patch process has completed
  213.     do NOT delete the BACKUP directory until you are satisfied
  214.     that the upgrade procedure was successful.  If you want to
  215.     undo your upgrade and return your installation to its previous
  216.     state, perform the following procedure.
  217.  
  218.         o To restore your system, change to the BACKUP directory,
  219.           copy 'UNPATCH.BAK' to 'UNPATCH.BAT', and type "UNPATCH".
  220.           This file will delete all new files in the appropriate
  221.           directories and replace them with the files which originally
  222.           existed.
  223.  
  224.         o Verify the original files have been correctly re-installed.
  225.  
  226.         o In order to re-run the patch process, you MUST delete the
  227.           BACKUP directory first. Otherwise, the patch procedure will
  228.           be unable to create an accurate BACKUP of the changes being
  229.           made during the subsequent upgrade.
  230.       
  231. * NOTE:      The following Inet configuration parameters have been
  232.           added to the NGM 2.00b release.
  233.  
  234.            [NGMSMF]
  235.               ngmimp-inbound-allowed=TRUE/FALSE
  236.               ngmimp-outbound-allowed=TRUE/FALSE
  237.  
  238.       If these settings do not exist, the default recognized by NGM
  239.       is TRUE. In order to turn off all INET inbound/outbound message
  240.       pickup and delivery, you will be required to add the above
  241.       Configuration File Parameters to the 'NGM.CFG' configuration
  242.           file, in SYS:\SYSTEM.
