  46. This README file accompanies  NE386.EXE.
  47.  
  48. This file was updated 5-29-92 to include the NE2100.LAN and NE1500T.LAN
  49. drivers.

  51. The above files represent the latest drivers available for the NetWare 3.1x
  52. operating system.   These versions have been through software test.
  53.  
  54. The above server drivers address the following:
  55.  
  56. 1)   These versions have been rewritten to now use the MSM (Media Support
  57. Module).  The MSM is the new tool (module) available to LAN driver
  58. developers from Novell to develop better LAN drivers.
  59.  
  60. 2)   In some environments these new drivers could help solve communication
  61. problems.
  62.  
  63. 3)   The file server has the potential of locking up under a heavy load if
  64. the file server is a 486 machine and you are using either an NE2000 or an
  65. NE/2.  A race condition exists where the last remote DMA write cycle of the
  66. National Semiconductor DP8390 (on the NIC card) can be prematurely
  67. terminated by writing to the Command Register with bit "RD2" set before the
  68. remote DMA write cycle has completed (refer to a future IMSP technical
  69. bulletin for more detailed information).  These later versions of the
  70. drivers address the issue.

  72. 4)   On certain networks with high traffic the adapter would stop
  73. receiving.
  74.  
  75. 5)   This updated NE3200 lan driver has been modified to allow the use of
  76. shared interrupts when the NE3200 adapter is set to LEVEL TRIGGERED
  77. INTERRUPTS.

  79. NOTE:  When using the NE3200.LAN, interupts must be selected for EISA
  80. configuration.

  82. TO INSTALL:

  84. 1)   Copy <filename>.LAN to the same directory as the other NLM files on
  85. your system (SYS:SYSTEM is suggested).
  86.  
  87. 2)    After the system is brought up, type LOAD <filename>
  88.
